by Emily Morgan

As more details pour in about the upcoming “NCIS” franchise spinoff, “NCIS: Hawai’i,” fans of the show are getting more hints at what to expect from the series.

As the anticipation builds for the latest addition to the “NCIS” franchise, Vanessa Lachey is giving fans more details about her lead role— which also marks the first time a woman has taken on such a role in the “NCIS” universe.

“I am the first female lead of the “NCIS” franchise, and I don’t take that lightly,” Lachey began a recently released video.

She further added, “I’m excited to bring a different layer to this role and hopefully inspire this next generation of young girls and women. My character Jane Tennant is the special agent in charge of NCIS. She’s a mother of a 15-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, and that is real life: juggling life, and love, and work.”

Her character’s official describes her “as diplomatic as she is hard-charging. A woman in a male-dominated profession, she’s thrived in a system that’s pushed back every step of the way through equal parts confidence and strategy.”

Vanessa Lachey’s Excitement Over Historic Role on ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’

After the network announced the news Lachey booked the part, she took to Instagram to express her excitement. “Mahalo! I am still on cloud 9 feeling unbelievably grateful,” she wrote.

She also added, “Thank YOU to everyone for the calls, texts, facetime, flowers, cards, videos & well wishes. I have worked in this industry for 20 years wishing for this moment… an opportunity to do something special and also a chance to inspire and motivate!

“My character is a bad–s with a warm heart. She’s the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS, and I PROMISE, I won’t let you down! I am feeling the Aloha spirit already and I cannot WAIT for this next chapter of my life! #NCISHawaii”

In addition to Lachey, Yasmine Al-Bustami and Jason Antoon will join the show with recurring roles. Al-Bustami will play Lucy, a “junior member of Tennant’s “NCIS” team. Eager to be the first one to find that key piece of evidence, create a workaround in the bureaucracy, or tackle a suspect down a flight of stairs.”

Antoon will also play the role of Ernie, who is the crew’s Cyber Intelligence Specialist and “a polyglot with a keen mind for technology, history, literature and all things Hawaiian.”

In other “NCIS” news, the original “NCIS” is also relocating to Mondays at 9 PM ET, creating a slot for “NCIS: Hawai’i.” The new series will air on Mondays at 10:00 PM ET.
