“NCIS: Hawai’i” is currently in the works. The show replaced “NCIS: New Orleans,” which was canceled. The regular “NCIS” as well as “NCIS: Los Angeles” were confirmed for another season.

Vanessa Lachey Talks ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’

For many fans of the franchise, the most exciting part is that the lead of the show will be a female character. Despite a number of spin-offs and related shows, the franchise has never had a show that featured a woman taking charge in the leading role.

Now, Vanessa Lachey will headline “NCIS: Hawai’i” and make history for the franchise. She recently spoke out about landing the CBS role on her Instagram.

“Honored is an understatement! To join the NCIS franchise as the first female lead and to do it on the Beautiful Islands of Hawai’i… I still can’t believe it! Thank You CBS for believing in me! Now let’s get to work! #NCISHawaii,” Vanessa Lachey wrote.

According to Deadline, she will be starring alongside Yasmine Al-Bustami (“The Chosen,” “The Originals”) and Jason Antoon (“Claws,” “Minority Report,” and “Two Weeks Notice”). They will play Lucy, a junior member of the team, and Ernie, a Cyber Intelligence Specialist, respectively. More cast members should be announced soon.

CBS has also adapted the name of the show. It was originally “NCIS: Hawaii.” However, now the show reflects the authentic Hawaiian spelling of the island of Hawai’i. The new show will actually be filmed in Hawai’i. CBS always films the shows in the actual location of the title, which adds to the overall realism.

Vanessa Lachey will play Jane Tennant. She is the Special Agent in charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor. The show will focus on the cast balancing the line of duty with other personal responsibilities. The crimes will center around military personnel, national security, as well as other native island-related crimes.

On top of being the boss, Jane Tennant is also a mother raising her kids mostly alone.
