‘NCIS: Hawai’i’: Which Island Does Filming for the Show Take Place?

by Jonathan Howard

The fourth series in the NCIS franchise is coming this September. NCIS Hawai’i has already filmed the pilot and Episode 2 of the series. Those first two episodes were directed by Larry Teng who has an extensive resume. Teng has directed plenty of crime drama in his past. That includes directing 11 episodes of Hawaii Five-0. The new series is based out of the Pearl Harbor Office of the Naval Crime Investigative Service.

Since the series takes place in Hawaii, the series is being filmed in Hawaii. Of course, Hawaii is made up of multiple islands, but the filming is taking place on Oahu. Oahu is known for being home to Peal Harbor as well as Waikiki beaches and the North Shore. If those sound familiar, the North Shore is where the island’s best surf spots are located. The island is also known for being a filming destination. The facilities that were built for the production of Hawaii Five-0 are being used for NCIS: Hawai’i.

The location of the set will provide unique shots and locations unavailable elsewhere. The other islands of Hawaii include the Big Island of Hawai’i, Maui, as well as Kaho’olawe, and others. Each island has its own nickname and distinct characteristics. Not to mention the other, many small islands that populate the area as well.

The NCIS: Hawai’i cast was treated to a blessing on set while filming the first two episodes.

NCIS Hawai’i on Oahu

With the series being based out of the Pearl Harbor office, it makes sense that Oahu would be the location to film, but surely won’t be the only location. So it will be interesting how many other islands are going to be visited. NCIS investigations can go awry as fans will know. The islands are the perfect place for a criminal to run and hide from law enforcement.

For NCIS star Vanessa Lachey, the new series has been great so far for her and she has been all over the media. She will be releasing a new book and recently celebrated her wedding anniversary with her husband Nick. The cast of NCIS: Hawai’i will be one that fans will learn to get to know. Because this series won’t be backdoored through another series in the franchise, it will likely stand on its own. There are hopes for crossovers with CBS drama Magnum P.I.

Meanwhile, director Teng has wrapped up filming of the first two episodes and the series is set to start on time this September. There will be plenty of action to catch when the series premieres this Fall.
