NCIS: Los Angeles star Chris O’Donnell once revealed his secret to a happy marriage. The actor has been on NCIS: Los Angeles as one of its stars since the start of the show in 2009. He plays Special Agent G. Callen alongside Sam Hannah actor LL Cool J and a team of dedicated supporting cast-mates.
When it comes to his personal life, however, the NCIS Los Angeles star has also been successful. He feels he’s had quite a happy marriage. So what’s his secret?
“Marry the right person,” he told People in a 2015 interview. “I was very lucky. We work at it all the time and have good communication.
“Somebody told us before we got married, ‘Don’t go to bed angry with each other,’ it’s a little thing but it means a lot. If something is bothering you, talk it out.” Without talking things out, things only fester. So it appears the NCIS: Los Angeles actor was right on the money here. He married his wife, Caroline in 1997. The two now have five children together.
Chris O’ Donnell Considers Himself a ‘Reactionary’ Parent
Just like he takes being a good husband seriously, Chris O’ Donnell also works hard when it comes to being a father figure for his kids. Still, he told People that he feels he reacts more on instinct than knowledge.
“I tend to be reactionary,” O’Donnell told the publication. “It’s funny there’s stuff that comes up when you first have a baby. You think, ‘how do I change a diaper? What do I do? Is it going to sleep?”
No parent can truly prepare for the experience of parenthood. Almost everyone at some point feels like they’re flying by the seat of their pants. But now that some of his kids are teenagers, he’s singing a different tune.
“Then all of a sudden the kids become teenagers and you think, ‘that was so easy!'” he joked.
NCIS: Los Angeles Season 13 Premieres This Month
Chris O’ Donnell has spent the last 13 years balancing work with family, and this year is no different as NCIS: Los Angeles continued. NCIS: Los Angeles premieres later this month. The 13th season of the show will find Callen exploring more about his past and coming face to face with Hetty, feeling like she knows more than she’s let on.
The show will also find Kensi, played by Daniela Ruah, and Deeks, played by Eric Christian Olsen, continue to try having a child. The two may turn to adoption as they’ve had no luck over the past year.
