‘NCIS: Los Angeles’: Did Deeks Really Get Fired and Is Eric Christian Olsen Leaving the Show?

by Anna Dunn

NCIS: Los Angeles had a pretty peaceful season 12 finale, but that doesn’t mean it left all questions answered. When it comes to Deeks, many are still wondering about how his firing from the LAPD will impact his future on the show. In a shocking episode last December, Deeks got fired because his job was cut.

Fans still have trouble wrapping their head around it, but he really did get the axe? Definitely. In the season 12 finale, Nell even explained to Deeks that there was nothing she could do about it even though the previous episodes leading up to the finale indicated Deeks could potentially get his job back.

Is Deeks Actor Eric Christian Olsen Returning to ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’

For fans worried that this would mean the end of Deeks, you can take a breath. Deeks actor Eric Christian Olsen is enthusiastically returning to NCIS: Los Angeles. What role Deeks will play on the show is impossible to say at this point, but he’s still going to be an important part of it.

Olsen’s posted a ton of fun content from the set of ‘NCIS: Los Angeles.’ His co-stars have done the same. For instance, Kensi Blye actress Daniela Ruah just posted a fun set of videos the other day on her Instagram story. The videos showed herself and Eric Olsen goofing off between scenes. She also gave fans an inside look in the studio with LL Cool J.

Eric Olsen and Daniela Ruah are In-Laws

Oddly, the duo that plays husband and wife on TV are real-life in-laws. Ruah married Eric Olsen’s brother after the two met on the set of NCIS: Los Angeles. Olsen’s brother works as a stunt double. Olsen and Ruah have taken their two families on vacation together and remain close while working on set. It makes NCIS: Los Angeles quite a family affair.

Olsen, meanwhile, married actress and business owner Sarah Wright in 2012. The two have three kids together. One of them just turned five. But on NCIS: Los Angles Eric Olsen’s character is struggling to have children. Deeks and Kensi started trying to have a baby last season, but haven’t had any luck so far. Many think the two will consider adoption next season.

No matter what happens to Deeks career-wise, it seems like there’s always going to be a place for him on the show as long as Eric Olsen wants it. Hetty actress Linda Hunt is also making a return. Gerald McRaney, who Plays Admiral Kilbride, will become a full-time member of the cast.

If you want to catch the return of NCIS: Los Angeles mark your calendar for Sunday, October 10th. NCIS: Los Angles is a part of the wildly successful NCIS franchise. The other two shows in the franchise, NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i will premiere a bit earlier on Monday, September 20th.
