The actor who plays Gary DeMayo in the “NCIS: Los Angeles” mid-season finale also stars in this popular movie.
Viewers of “NCIS: Los Angeles” meet character Gary DeMayo in this week’s newest episode. The mid-season finale is shocking to say the least. Fans are very interested in the man behind the role. Actor Charles Malik Whitfield plays DeMayo. Viewers recognize Whitfield at first glance. It turns out, the actor stars in “Behind Enemy Lines.”
The 2001 war film is the first installment of a trilogy produced by 20th Century Studios. It tells the story of Lieutenant Chris Burnett who is a pilot for the US Navy. As part of the NATO force, Burnett flies to Yugoslavia to observe the peace treaty. Things go wrong and the agreement is breaches. When Serb forces discover Burnett, he creates a new mission for himself: to survive. Based on a true story, Lieutenant Burnett uncovers evidence of genocide and makes it out alive.
Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman are prominent members of the cast. While Charles Malik Whitfield is not the movie’s protagonist, he is one of the military officers who saves Lieutenant Chris Burnett (played by Wilson) in the film. The actor enjoys his training before the film and learns a lot from his performance as Rodway.
The actor also shares the bigger takeaways from the role.
“It’s really humbling truly a gracious and appreciative perspective that I have for our enlisted and our armed forces,” he begins. “I am humbled beyond belief and also appreciative of the people that put their lives on the line. It also bothers me and rubs me the wrong way when I feel like our soldiers aren’t being taken care of when they return home and they cannot be forgotten at any point, the sacrifices that they have given not only for themselves, but for their families and for this country.”
