‘NCIS: Los Angeles’: Hetty Actor Linda Hunt Revealed Difficulties of Her Height Growing Up

by Anna Dunn

People can sometimes be cruel for the most nonsensical reasons. Unfortunately, NCIS: Los Angeles actress Linda Hunt knows this well.

Kids often teased the beloved Hetty actress when she was growing up for her height. Hunt, who now has countless adoring supporters who love her for her talent, has always been a bit small in stature.

When she was growing up, doctors diagnosed her with a form of dwarfism. They told her she’d never grow past 4’9. Thankfully, even though her peers made her feel alienated, her family stayed by her side and kept her going through the toughest of moments.

“Everybody either wanted to take care of me or push me around, you know?” the NCIS: Los Angeles actress said in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning. “I was teased a lot, sure I was, of course. Fourth grade, fifth grade, sixth grade, everybody was taking their spurts except me. I was not growing up.”

Luckily, Hunt found acting as a child after seeing a production of Peter Pan. It gave her an outlet to express herself and eventually lead her to NCIS: Los Angeles.

Linda Hunt Will Return to ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ For Season 13

After Linda Hunt was absent from the majority of season 12, many fans of the show worried that she wasn’t going to return for NCIS: Los Angeles’s upcoming 13th season. Thankfully, the only reason Hunt was absent from season 12 was COVID-19 precautions. Hunt is 76 and was at higher risk for contracting COVID than the rest of the cast.

According to producers, she’s excited for what’s to come.

“The minute I saw her, she’s like, ‘Let’s talk about next season…,’ so I think that as tough as last year was, for a lot of reasons, she, like the rest of us, is starting to see a little light at the end of the tunnel and feels good about coming back to work,” showrunner Scott Gemmill told TVLine.

Hunt will not have plenty of time to be back with her NCIS: Los Angeles pals. Her performance as Hetty has truly been one of a kind. NCIS: Los Angeles has been unstoppable in the ratings, often only being bested by its flagship show, NCIS. The entire franchise has brought CBS success in a time where broadcast networks are struggling.

For fans and many fellow human beings, it’s hard to think that someone would be bullied like Hunt was. Thankfully, she found solace in acting and grew up to be one of the most successful women on Television despite the hard times.
