Daniela Ruah, a Portuguese American actress best known for her role as Kensi Blye on “NCIS: Los Angeles” addresses her unusual features. In a conversation with Esquire, Ruah answers her most commonly asked question – why do you have two different colored eyes?

The actress originally provides a funny fib. “It happened when I was a kid. You know how Barbies have the little plastic hands? One of them stuck in my eye when I was sleeping.” The actress can’t keep it together and shortly after adds a longer explanation. “No, I can’t stay serious. That’s not true at all. It’s a birthmark called nevus of Ota. It covers the whole white of my eye and darkens it. The square of the eye, the white part, is completely dark on my right eye, not just the iris. It’s very common in Asian people but quite rare in Caucasians. It doesn’t affect my vision or anything like that.”

Ruah then discloses how her most unique feature sometimes gets photoshopped to add white to her eye, to her disappointment. In her opinion, the feature has not aided or conflicted with her acting career much but does require some lighting adjustments in certain scenes. The star handles herself very gracefully despite being pestered with these questions constantly.

Daniela Ruah ‘NCIS’ Crossover Possibility

After making her directorial debut this year with Season 12: Episode 11 of “NCIS: Los Angeles,” speculation is increasing that big things are in the air for Daniela Ruah. The “NCIS” universe is also expanding with its “NCIS: Hawaii” launch fast approaching. The spinoff will bring the series many “firsts” with it being the first “NCIS” crew outside the US mainland and the first cast to forego a pilot appearance as part of the main series. This gives fans hope for other big “firsts” and surprises.

Fans might remember back in Seasons 2 and 3 when Ruah’s character, Kensi Blye, found herself in Hawaii. This means that it’s not entirely unlikely her character will be called back to the sandy shores eventually. In the meantime, Ruah’s potential crossover is just that: a potential possibility.

Directorial Throwback

Daniela Ruah is not usually very active on social media. She does, however, like to celebrate big moments with her fans. As mentioned above, Ruah’s directorial debut this year was a big step in her career. This throwback ‘gram shows Ruah in a coveted Director’s Chair. Her caption pays homage to her Portuguese-American roots and the comments are resoundingly positive. Between all the “congrats,” there are also tons of heart emojis. Whether it’s directing more episodes or starring in a special crossover, we can’t wait to see what’s next for Ruah.
