Renee Felice Smith, the long-time star of NCIS: Los Angeles, is squeezing out every last bit of summer that she can.
Smith’s Nell Jones left NCIS: Los Angeles after the season 12 finale back around Memorial Day. And on Labor Day, she still was living an idyllic life. She loves to share the perfect snaps of a perfect life on her Instagram. And she offered that glimpse, again, to celebrate Labor Day.
On this blissful afternoon, Smith was in a boat on a lake looking out over the endless blue water.
Smith teased with the caption: “thanks for the ride, silly lily!”
Smith’s “silly lily” is a real place. She’s referring to Silly Lily Fishing Station along the south short of Long Island, NY. The station advertises that “summer is always just around the corner at Silly Lily.” It’s been around since 1932. Smith grew up in New York. Since leaving NCIS: Los Angeles, she’s definitely gone back to her East Coast roots.
Sad Face: NCIS: Los Angeles Is Without Nell, Eric This Season
Meanwhile, NCIS: Los Angeles is carrying on without Nell and Eric (Barrett Foa). Both characters left the team. The last time fans saw them, the two were riding in Eric’s expensive convertible into the sunset. They’re going to Tokyo to start their own security service.
In one of the final scenes of season 12, Hetty returns to the office and gives her blessing for Nell to leave. Now, it’s almost time for the premiere of season 13. And we know that Hetty (Linda Hunt) plays a major role in the opening episode.
NCIS: Los Angeles showrunners revealed photos from the premiere that features Callen (Chris O’Donnell) deep in conversation with Hetty. Hunt, who plays Hetty, was forced to spend most of season 12 doing scenes from her driveway because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The writers gave her a mystery assignment — she was calling in from an unidentified war zone.
But the Hetty mystery will be revealed. According to TV Insider, here’s the quick synopsis of the premiere of “Subject 17”: “While Callen suspects Hetty of keeping secrets about his past and Joelle surfaces in her quest to capture Katya, NCIS must track down an informant whose life is in danger. Also, Kensi and Deeks work to expand their family.”
NCIS: Los Angeles showrunner Scott Gemmill already told TV Insider that viewers definitely will find out where Hetty spent season 12. She’ll also get into verbal confrontations with Admiral Kilbride (Gerald McRaney). The show promoted McRaney to full-time cast for season 13. With Smith and Foa missing, the show needs more full-timers.
NCIS: Los Angeles also shared a photo from the premiere showing Hetty sitting at her desk as she’s in deep conversation with Kilbride. Now that will be some talk. Stay tuned, the premiere is Oct. 10.
