NCIS: Los Angeles has had a great run so far, but we’ve never really gotten a full backstory on one of the show’s most loved characters. A showrunner for the series, R. Scott Gemmill spoke to TV Line about if fans should expect to learn more about Deeks and when.
While it’s clear that they want to explore Deek’s past on NCIS: Los Angeles, Gemmill kept things honest about why we may not be able to expect an episode about it this season.
“We’ve never done the ‘Deeks, M’ episode. We haven’t really settled on what we want to do yet, and because it’s taken us this long, now it feels a lot more pressured to do it in such a way that the fans feel like the wait was worth it,” he said. But all that pressure means it’ll also take a lot of time and dedication to film and, well, they have a lot of other stuff planned this year.
“We’ve got a lot on our plate this year, to be honest,” Gemmill admitted.
‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Recently Posted a Clip of All of Deeks’ One Liners
While Deeks fans may be bummed that yet another season may fly by without an episode that explores Deeks’ past, it’s clear that NCIS: Los Angeles still appreciates the character. NCIS: Los Angeles recently posted a clip of all of Deeks’ one-liners. Thankfully, NCIS: Los Angeles tries to keep the corniness to a bearable level.
Or at least, they’re self-aware of how cringe-worthy he can get.
Deeks, played by Eric Christian Olsen, will still be a big part of this season. He’s a great comedic counterpart to some of the more serious characters. Fans also adore his relationship with his wife, Kensi. But still, the most recent NCIS: Los Angeles episode took a look at a different character’s backstory.
The Newest Episode took a Look at Hetty and Callen
The returning episode of the series found G. Callen learning that Hetty knew about him long before they met when he was a teenager in foster care. He found out that he was part of a group of foster children who were screened for potential use in the CIA. He found out he was labeled “Subject 17″ and was considered highly promising. Horrified, he made Hetty confess.
But now that Hetty has gone to Syria to complete a mission, Callen has asked someone to trace her. While it may be on a pause, the plotline between the two has definitely just begun.
While we’re getting more of Callen’s backstory and not as much on Deeks, there’s still a ton to get excited about for the next season 13 episodes. If you want to follow along, you can tune in to CBS on Sunday nights. While the show is usually set to air at 9/8 Central, there are occasional delays due to football.
