Daniela Ruah, who plays fan-favorite Kensi on NCIS: Los Angeles, loves to show off her kids.

They’re at a great age now. Son River is seven, while daughter Sierra will be five in September. The family recently returned from Portugal, which was part work and vacation.

But back in 2017, her life was a bit more frantic as she juggled a baby and a toddler while filming NCIS: Los Angeles. She already knew the routine with one child. But were there any changes with two?

She talked to Parade magazine about managing motherhood while playing an agent on NCIS: Los Angeles. The reporter asked her if it was more difficult with two kids.

“Yes and no,” Ruah said. “Yes, because I want to give my kids full attention, but there’s two, so it is shared attention now. But my son started preschool already, which means that he is actually not home for a lot of the day. Then once he comes home, there is a lot of snuggle time and playtime.”

Ruah Considers Herself ‘Working Mommy’ on Set of NCIS: Los Angeles

The reporter told Ruah she could hear her daughter playing. Does Ruah bring her on the NCIS: Los Angeles set? That would be yes.

“I have somebody who comes to work with me and helps a lot,” Ruah said, adding “I run back to my trailer any chance I get. I am still breastfeeding. (And) I try to be as full-time mommy as possible and also full-time working woman. That is the example I grew up with. Working mommy. but also very present.”

And she’s still a “working mommy.” When NCIS: Los Angeles finished filming for season 12, Ruah headed to Portugal. The family spends time there every summer. But she also had a film project. So husband David Olsen kept the kids in Los Angeles, while Ruah directed the movie Os Vivos, o Morto e o Peixe Frito in Torres Vedras, Portugal. Translated, the movie title is The Living, the Dead and the Fried Fish. It’s her second time directing. She also directed an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles earlier in season 12. It was called Russia, Russia, Russia.

Ruah and Family Head to Portugal Every Summer

Then on June 7, Ruah posted on Instagram: “After 3 weeks of work in Portugal, daddy finally arrived with the cubs.” In the article in Parade four years ago, Ruah mentioned how important it was that her kids had passports. She was born in Boston, but at age 5, she and her parents moved back to Portugal. She grew up there and began her acting career there, too. Now, her kids travel with her.

A week later, Ruah posted a photo of her two kids on a Portuguese beach. She captioned it “my five loves.” Her husband and parents were with her, too.

And NCIS: Los Angeles fans may get to see Kensi and her husband, Marty Deeks, add a little one to their family.

Showrunner Scott Gemmill told TVInsider that writers are discussing whether to include a pregnancy or adoption for the on-screen couple.

Gemmill said: “Would it be a wise decision to have a child when both of you are putting your lives in jeopardy every day? That’s a legitimate concern for the two of them and something that we will have to explore as we move forward.”
