‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Star Eric Christian Olsen Drops Sweet Pic of Kids ‘Preparing to Save the World’

by Suzanne Halliburton

There’s nothing cuter than the kids of this NCIS: Los Angeles star.

Eric Christian Olsen, who plays Marty Deeks on the show, loves to share family snaps on his Instagram account. And because Olsen is a lot like his goofy and brave NCIS: Los Angeles character, he charms fans with creative cutlines.

Earlier this Fourth of July holiday weekend, Olsen posted:

“A team of Gerbils Preparing to save the world. #checkoutthepaws

You can’t help but smile at the photo.

Olsen and his wife Sarah Wright are the parents of three children. They are Wyatt Oliver, Esme Olivia and Winter Story. All three have their dad’s tousled blonde curls, giving the whole Olsen family that perfect always-summer California surfer look.

Family Relaxes as NCIS: Los Angeles Takes Break After Season 12

This is a relaxed time for the family. NCIS: Los Angeles is on summer break with season 13 on the horizon.

Olsen, as Deeks, had a tumultuous season on the show. He’s the former cop and public defender who was the LAPD liaison with the NCIS: Los Angeles office. However, like millions of real-life people across the country, Deeks was placed on furlough and then lost his job. Hetty (Linda Hunt) was able to get Deeks into the NCIS academy as a Christmas kind of miracle. And we know he aced the training.

It’s likely the idea of Deeks having a family will be an NCIS: Los Angeles plot point this fall. Deeks is married to Kensi (Daniela Ruah), a fellow NCIS agent. (In real life, Olsen and Ruah are related by marriage. Ruah is married to Olsen’s older brother).

Will Show Write in a Family For Deeks, Kensi?

Kensi wants a family. So does Deeks. But given their chaotic, dangerous jobs, is it credible for the couple to have kids? Scott Gemmill, show runner for NCIS: Los Angeles, said it’s being discussed in the show’s writers room.

“That’s been a big dilemma for us as writers,” Gemmill said, “because you don’t want to do something that makes your characters look negligent. Would it be a wise decision to have a child when both of you are putting your lives in jeopardy every day? That’s a legitimate concern for the two of them, and something that we will have to explore as we move forward.

“Whether Kensi is able to get pregnant or whether it’s going to be an adoption, that’s a tricky one because you want them to be happy, but you also don’t want them to look irresponsible.”

But fans can look at Olsen’s real life and see he’s the perfect kind of cool dad, who talks about gerbils and saving the world. Plus, Ruah, like her brother-in-law, loves to show off her two young children.

Olsen and his wife’s youngest child is only nine months old. In Olsen’s latest Instagram post, he shared a photo of father and daughter sitting in a golf cart. She’s asleep. Daddy is desperately trying to stay awake. He captioned it: “I know it’s only 11am but we ALL deserve this nap.”
