“NCIS: Los Angeles” is coming back for its 13th season. And that means so too are so-crazy-they-just-might-work theories about what’s going to happen.
When we left Kensi and Deeks at the end of Season 12, the couple was having difficulty conceiving. And the prospect of adoption was looking more and more likely. Unfortunately, the sociopathic ex-con David Kessler has been given a Presidential pardon and is on the loose once again.
That spells devastating news for Kensi’s hopes of raising a family, as Kessler has a vendetta against the NCIS field agent who put him behind bars. The couple is now faced with a dilemma. Are their lives simply too dangerous for them to think about raising a family?
After all, if they deal with the threat posed by David Kessler… What happens then? It’s already a big “if.” They’re contending with a man who clearly has the resources and know-how to make her life a waking nightmare. He got himself out of prison via pardon. Those are some serious connections.
So even if the “NCIS: Los Angeles” couple overcomes Kessler, how long will it be before they’re faced with a similar threat? It comes with the territory of working in such a dangerous environment. However the situation plays out, fans have to wait until the Fall to find out what happens with the “NCIS: Los Angeles” characters.
Big Cast Changes for ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Following Season 12
Obviously, Eric Christian Olsen and Daniela Ruah are returning for Season 13 to portray Deeks and Kensi. But in the wake of “NCIS: Los Angeles” Season 12, there have been some significant changes to the cast.
One of the biggest departures is that of Renée Felice Smith. She has appeared on “NCIS: Los Angeles” as Nell Jones in 253 episodes of the show since 2010. We don’t know if she’s gone for good, but she won’t be back for Season 13. In late May, she told TV Line that she was extremely grateful for the opportunity.
“Ultimately, I could say something profound but I just want to say thank you. Thank you for respecting Nell. Thank you for embracing Nell, for embracing her intelligence,” Smith said. “I’ve always been cast as kind of the ‘funny friend,’ the quirky turkey. I was the nurse in ‘Romeo & Juliet’ when I auditioned for Juliet in high school. But with Nell, I really got to play so much more, and I am just so grateful to have been able to play the ‘smart girl,’ quite frankly.”
It’s only fitting that her partner, Eric Beale, is following Nell on to greener pastures. As Beale, actor Barrett Foa has Smith’s character beat. He was an original cast member of the show, appearing in 280 episodes of “NCIS: Los Angeles” since 2009. He won’t be back for Season 13.
