NCIS star Wilmer Valderrama revealed a heartwarming story about how he discovered that he was going to be a father.

During an episode of Live! With Kelly and Ryan, he spoke about how his fiancée Amanda Pacheco told him that she was pregnant. He described having a baby together as a “full circle” moment.

“This baby was ridiculously serendipitous,” he said. There were numerous signs that they were ready to welcome a bundle of joy.

“I found out that I was going to be a father on Father’s Day she took the pregnancy test on Father’s Day,” he revealed. During that time, their parents and fathers were in their backyard for a celebration in honor of the holiday.

“We were able to keep it a secret from the family for a while,” the NCIS actor shared. “For the first couple of months but we told our dads on Father’s Day too so it was a really really beautiful journey to.”

The couple named their baby a Japanese name, Nakano Oceana Valderrama. He described having a “spiritual experience” together in Tokyo. That was the trip where they said “I love you” for the first time. During that time they also spoke about the importance of family.

Amanda gave birth on February 15.

“She’s incredibly passionate about the ocean and diving and ocean life, so that was another tribute to her mom,” Valderrama told People.

Although Amanda is a great mother, it was her future hubby who kept track of her ovulation apps and counting the days to conceive. He noted that he believes he was “genetically built to be a dad.”

He took that positive attitude and brought it to diapers. While in the hospital, he literally “jumped” at the opportunity to change a dirty diaper.

Keeping ‘NCIS’ Fresh

Valderrama spoke with Entertainment Tonight Canada about how NCIS has managed to be exciting, even after all of these years.

“I always think it’s so fascinating how the writers are able to keep [NCIS] so fresh,” he shared. “They’ve also made a real partnership with us on the show. So, a lot of them really consult with the actors.”

Valderrama revealed that the writers ask the cast for their input. They also check in to see where they believe their characters are headed in the future for scripts and plots. The NCIS star added that having the input gives them more creative control and helps keep things exciting.
