Following the debut of Diona Reasonover’s NCIS character Kasie Hines, co-star of the show, Wilmer Valderrama opened up about why he loves the character.

While chatting about Reasonover’s character with Parade in 2018, the NCIS star stated that Hines is effective in her own way. “She has her own way of doing things. That’s why I love her character. Because it’s a different element. It’s something different.”

While chatting about his character Nick Torres taking Hines out into the field, the NCIS star shared, “Because of how grounded and how good she is, that episode is very funny. It shows a lot of different sides of her and a lot of different personality traits.”

Reasonover joined the cast of NCIS in 2018. Prior to her debut on the criminal investigation series, Reasonover was in Drive Share, Grace and Frankie, Girl Meets World, Clipped, 2 Broke Girls, and Transparent. She has made an appearance in more than 70 episodes on NCIS over the past three years.

Diona Reasonover Talks About Her Role As a Forensic Scientist on ‘NCIS’

During a May 2020 interview with FlickeringMyth, Diona Reasonover spoke about her character on NCIS. “Katie is written really well and I get to work with Mark Harmon. It’s good TV and plus I’m really cute I get to wear cute pants.”

The NCIS castmate also shared that she has a Mae Jemison poster around for inspiration. “Kasie is really smart and naturally cool. I enjoy playing her. I get the opportunity to play this really smart and brilliant scientist who is dedicated to her job.”

When asked what interested her about the NCIS character, Reasonover shared, “It’s all in the writing, you know. I really wish someone would write my real life like that.”

Reasonover then describes her NCIS persona as being really smart. She also thinks her comedy background brings realism to the character as well. “Comedy gets people to unite and Kasie even with her one-liners bring life to everyone around her.”

In regards to which NCIS episode was her favorite so far, Reasonover answered with Institutionalized. “The episode is so beautifully written that we get to see more sides of Kasie. We know that Kasie is smart but to be able to see how situations affect her personally as well as professionally gives her character more layers and dimensions.”

She further explained that her NCIS character also gets a chance to get her hands “a little dirty” in the episode, which is a different pace for her. She goes on to admit that she really wants to continue to play Hines. “I know it sounds weird, but the way the writers have written her on the show makes it a natural fit for me.”
