Just when you thought the Tiger King saga may be winding down, you’d be wrong. Following the success of Season 2 of the hit Netflix series, the streaming service is now focusing on another character from the show – Doc Antle.

Last year as the Covid-19 pandemic swept the nation, viewers across the world became mesmerized by the Netflix series. Tiger King explored the life of big cat breeders and rescuers along with the darker side of the industry. The series primarily focused on Joseph Maldonado-Passage, an eccentric zookeeper in Oklahoma best known as Joe Exotic. And to say the show shot to popularity immediately doesn’t quite do it justice.

With millions of Americans stuck at home in lockdown, Tiger King became a TV phenomenon. It became part of pop culture seemingly overnight. Even with Joe Exotic ending up in prison by the end of the series, the story wasn’t over yet to the surprise of many. In fact, just last month, Netflix released the second season of the hit TV series. However, the streaming service isn’t done with the show just yet.

Earlier today, Netflix debuted a trailer for a spinoff titled Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story. The three-part documentary will dive into the life and work of private zoo operator Bhagavan “Doc” Antle. Less than a month after Netflix released Tiger King 2, the streaming service will premiere the new spinoff on Dec. 10. Once again, the series will be directed by documentarians Rebecca Chaiklin and Eric Goode.

‘Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story’ Will Further Explore Antle’s Mysterious Past

Fans of the original Tiger King series saw a glimpse into Doc Antle’s wildlife operation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. However, like the rest of the zookeepers featured on the show, Antle’s business practices came under question as well.

Dating back to the first season of Tiger King, Joe Exotic accused Antle of euthanizing tigers after they reached a certain age. Additionally, a former employee alleged that Antle sexually exploited female employees who worked at the zoo. The zookeeper has denied all accusations.

Last year, a grand jury indicted Antle on charges of wildlife trafficking, animal cruelty, and violations of the Endangered Species Act. According to Netflix’s announcement, the new series will further explore his mysterious past and “lifelong abuses of power.”

“A lifelong showman, Doc Antle has built his various careers on theatrics, attracting a slew of admirers along the way,” the documentary’s synopsis says. “But beneath the eccentric, animal-loving facade lies a predator far more dangerous than his beloved big cats and a man shadier than any of his Tiger King counterparts. Over three episodes, Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story unpacks the truth about Doc, as witnesses come forward to share their troubling stories of abuse and intimidation that set him at the top of the food chain.”
