Nicolas Cage Spent a Whopping $150 Million Fortune and Ended Up Broke: Here’s How

Just because you end up with a fortune doesn’t mean you will always have that fortune. That’s a lesson once learned by Hollywood star Nicolas Cage.

The 57-year-old actor amassed an impressive $150 million fortune thanks to his decades-long acting career, according to LAD Bible. However, he reportedly spent the vast majority of it on some truly surprising items. For instance, he once purchased a nine-foot-tall pyramid. It has been alleged that he wants to be buried there.

It was reported by the Mirror that the “National Treasure” star had spent most of his fortune when he reached his 40s. At one point, he owed the International Revenue Service $6.3 million. Cage would say that it was his accountant who put him “down a path of financial ruin.”

Whatever the reason, it is clear that the actor has spent millions and millions of dollars on some very, let’s say, uncommon purchases. The pyramid is not the only unusual item purchased by Nicolas Cage over the years.

Another item he purchased was the skull of a 67-million-year-old Tarbosaurus dinosaur. This piece cost the “Con-Air” star $300,000. Interestingly, Cage reportedly won the skull by outbidding fellow Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio. Unfortunately, this skull was not in Cage’s possession long. It was discovered that it was stolen, so Cage gave it to Mongolian law enforcement so it could go back to the actual owner.

Cage also once bought a prehistoric bear skull. This piece, however, was broken while the actor was playing pool.

Nicolas Cage Purchased the Home of a Serial Killer

Nicolas Cage also spent millions on several properties. One of the most unusual was the former home of serial killer Madame Delphine LaLaurie of New Orleans. (If you’re a fan of “American Horror Story,” you might recognize the name. This is the character played by Kathy Bates in the “Coven” season of the fictional series.) Cage reportedly spent $3.45 million in 2006. The house is said to be haunted.

Cage also spent $8 million for a Bavarian Castle in Etzelwang, Germany. This castle dates back to the 11th century. He bought another castle in Bath, England, that was also worth $8 million. He also purchased an island in the Bahamas. The island is located south of Nassau and is 40 acres. This cost the “Face/Off” star $7 million.

These are the only properties Nicolas Cage has owned. He also had a home on a beach in California that was valued at $25 million. At one point, the actor reportedly owned 15 separate homes.

Cage also collected cars, motorcycles, and yachts. His car count once reached 50. One of these was a $1 million Ferrari Enzo. In 1997, he bought a Lamborghini for $450,000. He also owned several Rolls Royces. He also had about 30 motorcycles. Cage also had four yachts and one of them was worth $20 million. He also bought a private jet.
