Nicole Kidman’s Lucille Ball Film ‘Being the Ricardos’ Announces Full Cast

While Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem will be the stars of the film “Being the Ricardos,” several other cast members will complete the “I Love Lucy” experience.

Kidman will play Lucille Ball and Bardem is portraying Desi Arnaz. The film is the project of director Aaron Sorkin. He is an Academy Award and Golden Globe winner for “The Trial of the Chicago 7” and “The Social Network.” So who else is appearing alongside the two Hollywood stars?

Fred and Ethel Actors in ‘Being the Ricardos’

The movie also cast two people to represent the actors behind Fred and Ethel Mertz, the Ricardo’s iconic neighbors and best friends. J.K. Simmons will be portraying actor William Frawley, who played Fred Mertz. Simmons is known for his roles in “Whiplash,” “Juno,” “La La Land,” and also “Spider-Man.”

He won an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and also a BAFTA Award for “Whiplash.”

Alongside him will be Nina Arianda as actor Vivian Vance, who portrayed Ethel on the sitcom. Arianda is known for her roles in “Midnight in Paris,” “Stan & Ollie,” “Win Win,” and “Richard Jewell.”

“Being the Ricardos” will pull back the curtain on the classic sitcom “I Love Lucy.” The premise of the upcoming film is to showcase a look behind the scenes at how filming and preparation were completed. It takes place during a week of production (Monday to Friday) of the classic sitcom.

Other Cast Members in Film

Instead of recreating “I Love Lucy,” the movie will help people understand the trials and tribulations of Lucille Ball’s and Des Arnaz’s career and marriage.

The executive producer and head writer of the show was Jess Oppenheimer. Tony Hale will be portraying him in “Being the Ricardos.” He is most recognizable for his role in “Veep” and “Arrested Development.” He won an Emmy for his role as Gary Walsh on HBO’s “Veep.”

The series also cast Oppenheimer’s two writing partners, Madelyn Pugh and Bob Carroll Jr. Alia Shawkat, who also starred in “Arrested Development,” will portray Pugh. Jake Lacy, known for “The Office,” “Carol,” and “Miss Sloane,” will portray Carroll.

Finally, Clark Gregg, famous for his character in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and the Marvel Universe, will also have a role in “Being the Ricardos.” Nelson Franklin, John Rubinstein, Linda Lavin, Robert Pine, and Christopher Denham also have small roles.

Recently, fans of Kidman also got a chance to see her dressed as the iconic red-haired comedian, Lucille Ball.

In the released photos, Kidman is sporting the red hair on the set of “Being the Ricardos.” The movie just went into production a few weeks ago. In the past, Kidman stated she was excited to portray the comedy icon in the drama film.

Her husband, Keith Urban, also shared that Kidman is beyond excited in her current role.

“I’m proud of her for anything. It’s a really an extraordinary role and it’s an extraordinary script — Aaron Sorkin has written beyond on this. It’s just amazing. She’s loving doing it and it’s an amazing cast. Props to everyone for making things happen,” Urban said to Extra TV.
