It’s no secret that stepping into the shoes of one of the most iconic and comedic figures in the entertainment world, Lucille Ball, is no easy task. When Aaron Sorkin set out to create “Being the Ricardos,” he wanted to find someone that would capture the true essence of the “I Love Lucy” star. He would end up picking iconic actor Nicole Kidman (“Nine Perfect Strangers,” “Big Little Lies,” “The Undoing”) for the role.

In recent trailers, fans of Ball can see as Kidman takes on her iconic 1950s look and also delves into her personal life.

Nicole Kidman on Playing Lucille Ball in ‘Being the Ricardos’

According to Variety, the cast of the upcoming movie recently sat for a questionnaire. Kidman revealed just how nerve-wracking, as well as “frightening but incredibly exciting,” it was to become Lucille Ball.

“I had massive trepidation about a month prior. Aaron [Sorkin] had to get on the phone and send me some emails saying, ‘You’ve got this,” Kidman said.

When she was first selected as Lucille Ball, fans had their reservations. Now, as more sneak peeks have been revealed for “Being the Ricardos,” fans seem to be more and more on board with the movie. They’ll finally get to see it when it hits theaters on December 10 and will be available to stream on December 21.

It is a dramatic film that will show behind the scenes of the production of one episode of “I Love Lucy.” During that time, Lucy and Desi (played by Javier Bardem) go through a career challenge as well as personal, marital problems.

Kidman stated just how much she loved getting to play Lucille, who she called a trailblazer in every way.

“I love Lucille … And I did not know that much about her. I had seen the show, I saw ‘I Love Lucy,’ but I didn’t know about the woman behind Lucy,” Kidman said.

Aaron Sorkin Addresses Casting Controversy

Since “Being the Ricardos” was first announced, fans were in an uproar over the casting.

Casting for two roles like these ones proved incredibly hard for writer and director Aaron Sorkin. However, it all fell together when Bardem and Kidman expressed interest in the role as the iconic husband-wife duo.

“When Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem … say they want to do your movie, your casting search is over. You start out making graphs and charts and this and things like that, and then suddenly it gets easy,” Sorkin told The Hollywood Reporter.

The controversy didn’t stop there. Some fans critiqued Bardem as Desi Arnaz because he is a Spanish actor, not a Cuban-American actor. Sorkin noted that Lucy and Desi’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz, had zero problems with the casting.

Some fans wanted Debra Messing as Lucille Ball because they claim she looks more like her. Sorkin stressed that Nicole Kidman didn’t need to look exactly like the Lucy from “I Love Lucy” because there’s only a few minutes of the show recreated for the movie. He said Ball had another look outside of the show that Kidman mimicks well.

“Be what she’s not allowed to be on TV in 1952 on CBS. Let her be a woman. Let her be sexy. You weren’t allowed to be sexy on TV (then),” he said.
