As of now, there is no official news as to the type cancer the sixty-one year-old Macdonald had been facing. It has been reported that the longtime actor and comedian was determined to keep his condition private.
Over the years, Norm Macdonald has brought us some of our favorite characters, be it through his time on the legendary sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live, in his comedic stage acts, or on film.
Let’s take a look back at some of the beloved actor’s most memorable moments.
Saturday Night Live
From 1993 until 1998, Norm Macdonald was a fixture on NBC’s hugely popular Saturday Night Live. During his time on the hit sketch comedy show, Macdonald became one of the series’ most well-known Weekend Update anchors.
Macdonald’s time in the SNL Weekend Update anchor chair was so iconic that the segment’s current anchor, Colin Jost has said Macdonald was one of the biggest influences in his career.
During his five-season run on Saturday Night Live, Norm Macdonald brought his own tone to the sketch comedy series, performing memorable impressions of a variety of celebrities such as Burt Reynolds, David Letterman, Bob Dole, and Larry King.
While working on Saturday Night Live, Norm Macdonald connected with another cast member and comedian, Adam Sandler. The two starred in the massively popular comedic hit film Billy Madison in 1993.
The two SNL stars would eventually go on to star in a total of six films together including Grown Ups, Jack and Jill, and 2015’s The Ridiculous 6.
‘The Norm Show’
In 1999 the formidable actor starred in his own television sitcom series called The Norm Show. The popular ABC series ran from March 1999 until the spring of 2001. While the popular sitcom began its run as The Norm Show, the title was later shortened to Norm.
Norm Macdonald and Dave Chapelle Bring Incredible Laughs
In 2000, the longtime actor and comedian partnered with another famous name in comedy, Dave Chappelle.
The two starred in the hilarious comedy of errors film Screwed.
The film featured Macdonald as a frustrated chauffeur, Willard who fakes a kidnapping with his friend, Rusty (Dave Chapelle) in order to extort money from Macdonald’s pie-heiress boss. Of course, things go terribly, awfully, and hilariously wrong as the duo tries to keep things from going too awry. (They don’t, by the way.)
Norm Macdonald, Always a Comedian at Heart
Throughout his career, Norm Macdonald always found his way back to what he loved: stand-up comedy. Even at the height of his movie career, the actor and comedian would regularly go on the road, performing shows in comedy clubs across the nation.
In fact, the longtime comedian was known for supporting young comedians as they started their careers on the very same stages on which Macdonald had also started, years before.
