Olivia Culpo Talks Beauty Pageant System & How It Empowers Women
Following her crowning as Miss USA in 2012, Olivia Culpo spoke to GQ about how the beauty pageant system actually empowers women.
“I think that aspect of [pageant system] is great, but when you take parents who are forcing their children to do anything, I don’t think it’s healthy,” Culpo admits. The now-former beauty pageant contestant also says she doesn’t Toddler Tiaras is actually helpful. “But in terms of the pageant system as a whole, I really do think it does empower women.”
While also addressing Rob Kardashian’s criticism about women wearing too much makeup during pageants, Olivia says that contestants are done up because they want to be entertaining. “It’s TV. That’s part of it. If you’re vying for the title of Miss USA, you want to be a beauty queen. So it is a lot of hair and it is a lot of makeup.”
Culpo does admit that there are different degrees. She also says it was kind of bad for Kardashian to generalize the whole group of women. “That’s a stereotypical thing to say, but everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.”
Olivia also opens up about how she first became interested in beauty pageants.
“It was the beginning of my sophomore year when I won [Miss Rhode Island]. I went to Boston and joined a modeling agency, talent agency, and started acting modeling,” she said. Culpo further reveals that she grew up playing cello so she already knew how to be on stage and remain comfortable.
Olivia Reveals Her Beauty Routine During COVID-19 Lockdown
In a recent interview with Insider, Olivia Culpo says she found herself wearing a little less makeup when she was in lockdown.
“I’ve been trying to find new ways to help my skincare routine,” Culpo says. She then said she is exploring new products, which she tends to avoid because she doesn’t have time to do research on each product.
In regards to one of her earliest beauty memories, Olivia adds, “I started by just rummaging through the medicine cabinets in our house and my mom’s vanity. I remember I would just use Vaseline or baby oil, and put it on my eyes for a little sheen.”
