Ozzy Osbourne gave fans a New Year’s treat when he announced he’s back in the studio. The Godfather of Heavy Metal tweeted he was working on a follow up to Ordinary Man.
Osbourne released Ordinary Man in February 2020. He must have stayed busy during the lockdown as he’s working on a follow-up less than a year later. That’s a marked improvement considering Scream, the album prior to Ordinary Man, came out in 2010.
Osbourne said nothing about any potential guests on his upcoming album. Ordinary Man featured several major musical guests including Elton John, who worked on the title track, and Post Malone, who was featured on “It’s a Raid.”
Not much is known about the follow-up album. Osbourne hasn’t discussed any potential release dates or any of the tracks.
Ozzy Osbourne Honors ‘Little Brother’ Randy Rhoads
Ozzy Osbourne has been active on social media recently. He posted a photo of him performing with his former guitarist the late Randy Rhoads.
The Prince of Darkness shared the photo to his 5.3 million followers that featured them performing on the Blizzard of Ozz Tour. He didn’t date the photo but that tour ran from September 1980 until September 1981. This was Ozzy’s first solo tour after Black Sabbath fired him a year before.
Osbourne has posted a few times about Rhoads recently. Rhoads died in a plane crash in 1982. He was only 25 at the time of his death, but he was considered one of the greatest metal guitarists ever. Osbourne released a live album featuring Rhoads called Tribute five years after the guitarist’s death. Osbourne said he thought of Rhoads as a “little brother.”
The album encapsulates Osbourne’s first two solo efforts, Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman. However, Tribute mainly showcased Rhoads’ spectacular talent.
“He was such a nice guy,” Osbourne has said. “A very gentle man, a very tiny man… but so powerful with his instrument.”
