Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival kicked off this weekend in Dana Point, CA. The event is showcasing artists such as Brand Carlile, Beck, and Lord Huron. But on Thursday night, one of the headlining bands, Kings of Leon had to cancel their show. So Pearl Jam’s frontman pulled together his new solo band and gave the crowd a surprise concert.

Kings of Leon had to back out of the festival last mins. The group, which consists of three brothers, had to fly home to be with their mother, Betty Lou Murphy. She had unexpectedly fallen ill due to a “medical crisis.”

With the night’s lead band gone, Vedder was left with a packed amphitheater and no entertainment. So his new solo band jumped on stage and saved the day with an 11 song set.

Vedder’s new all-star band includes Josh Klinghoffer and Chad Smith from The Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as Pino Palladino, Glen Hansard, and Andrew Watt.

The setlist had songs from their early glory days. Songs included new takes on Porch, Long Road, and Corduroy. They also covered a few famous pieces by R.E.M., The Who, and Prince.

The show was the first live event for the band, which made the surprise appearance all the more special. And on top of that, Vedder debuted another emerging artist that night—his 17-year-old daughter Olivia. She sang a song aptly named My Father’s Daughter.

“We’re kind of making it up here tonight,” said Vedder as he took the stage.

During the performance, Eddie Vedder also covered Molly Chambers as a special tribute to King’s of Leon’s ailing mother. Sadly, Betty Lou Murphy passed the following morning (September 24th).

Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder Drops First Single From Solo Album

One of the songs Eddie Vedder did not perform on Thursday night was his solo group’s newest single, Long Way. But that’s ok because you can listen to it here.

The song is off of the Even Flow singer’s upcoming album, Earthling. And Vedder teamed with the 2021 Grammy Producer of the Year, Andrew Watt, to create his newest work. So we know the album will be epic. Vedder hasn’t given any clues about the release date, but at least he gave us the single.

On September 7th, Eddie Vedder posted Long Way on his official Instagram page. The song already has nearly 23K likes. So, we’re guessing people are liking it.

Long Way is the new single from my upcoming solo album, Earthling,” he wrote. “Listen to the track now wherever you stream music, and pre-order a special limited-edition 7” vinyl featuring Long Way and the soon-to-be-released song, The Haves at the link in bio.”
