Fans are torn over the recent announcement that movie star Jeremy Renner has joined the cast of Yellowstone co-writer Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming series Mayor of Kingstown.
A recent report from Deadline.com stated that Renner will be the lead actor in the new series that will stream on Paramount+. He will be playing the main character Mike McLusky.
Jeremy Renner, of course, is an extremely popular actor. Fans love him for his roles in the Marvel cinematic universe as the character, “Hawkeye.”
He’s also made appearances in the Bourne and Mission Impossible franchises.
And while you’d think that landing a high-profile actor would be nothing but good news, many fans are cannot decide over whether or not to support Renner in his new role. A new #ripjeremyrenner hashtag has been making its rounds on Twitter as fans are seemingly trying to bring the star actor down.
One user on Twitter, @KorraLarson, gave some pretty damning allegations about Renner in a recent tweet.
“Just wanted to say that he said the n word, constantly a douchebag to people irl, and the domestic abuse he did to his ex-wife was supported by the nanny #ripjeremyrenner,” they wrote.
It was just last year that amid their ongoing custody battle, Renner’s ex-wife, Sonni Pacheco, said he be drug tested for the safety of their seven-year-old daughter, Ava.
The 29-year-old Pacheco said that Renner, 49, has a “long history of alcohol and drug abuse which has persisted since before the parties’ marriage, through divorce and post-judgment.”
Pacheco, a former model, also brought up an incident from 2019. She says that Jeremy Renner allegedly put a gun in his mouth and threatened to commit suicide before shooting his gun at the ceiling. She also said their daughter Ava was in the next room.
Fans Torn Over Jeremy Renner Situation
It seems like fans on Twitter are on both sides of the entire situation with Jeremy Renner. However, there were many fans that were unquestionably upset over his latest casting in Mayor of Kingstown.
“#ripjeremyrenner yikes if y’all really hated jeremy renner and took his allegations seriously you wouldn’t be filling this hashtag with fancams,” another fan said.
Another user posted on Twitter saying, “why am I just finding out this stuff about jeremy renner I-“
On the other hand, however, there were plenty of fans that were siding with Renner. Just Jenny (@JustJennyFlynn) was one of those. She took to Twitter with a few choice words of her own.
“Jeremy Renner isn’t dead,” she wrote. “#ripjeremyrenner Just a bunch of f—ing kids who try to act all woke and anti-bullying, etc. While deliberately getting a RIP hashtag going for someone they don’t like. F–k off with that s–t.
Other people shared that same sentiment. Akash (@reynardssymphony) chimed in with his two cents.
“Jeremy Renner gets immense hate for absolutely no reason. He’s a criminally underrated actor with some criminally under appreciated performances. This #ripjeremyrenner hashtag is just disgusting and unnecessary.”
