Gaining and losing extreme amounts of weight has become a regular thing for high-profile actors these days. If they really want to take on a role, they’ll do whatever they have to do for the sake of the character. Mark Wahlberg, the “Boogie Nights” and “Patriot’s Day” actor, is in the middle of his own weight transformation. The movie star took to Instagram recently to show off his new body.
In an interview he did with Jimmy Kimmel a few months ago, Mark Wahlberg said that he planned on gaining 30 pounds for his role in the upcoming movie “Father Stu.” He plays a boxer-turned-priest, and as a result, he had to go from absolutely shredded to what you see in his post below.
From the timeline he provided, it seems that Mark Wahlberg is currently 20 pounds heavier in the right frame than he is on the left. He put that weight on over the course of just three weeks, though. And if 30 pounds is the goal, he has his eating work cut out for him.
“They want me to do it as healthy as possible and I’m like ‘Dude, I’ve been on such a regimen for so long, I just want to eat everything in sight. I want to go bakeries,” Wahlberg told Jimmy Kimmel. “I want to go to Denny’s, I want to get pancakes, I want to get everything I can possibly get my hands on.”
As great as that sounds, though, the typically fit actor is apparently doing the right way. He has a private chef who put him on a healthy weight gain regimen. And thankfully, he’s not opposed to a little movie-making magic.
Mark Wahlberg Doesn’t Have to do it All on His Own
The level of dedication required to gain 30 pounds for a movie role is impressive. And obviously, the paycheck helps a bit. But concerned fans will be relieved to know that Mark Wahlberg isn’t gaining a crazily unhealthy amount of weight.
The 30 pounds isn’t enough to truly transform in into the character of priest Stuart Long, however. For that, Wahlberg has the help of a professional makeup department. He can be transformed into a character with prosthetics and a fat suit. The actual weight gain only serves to make his look more convincing.
Further, Mark Wahlberg’s personal chef assured E!News that as far the weight gain goes, “he can drop it pretty quick. Within a few weeks you’ll probably see a drastic change.”
