PHOTO: Nicole Kidman Feels ‘Gone With the Wind’ in Stunning Throwback

by Jon D. B.

No one does it quite like Nicole Kidman, and she’s proving it by way of this wind-blown, black & white throwback photo.

“Gone With The Wind,” the Hollywood icon posts to her official Instagram Thursday. It’s a stunning shot of one of the industry’s most prolific actors, who only seems to get more talented and – well, stunning – by the year. While Kidman doesn’t include any further details on the shot aside from her apropos caption, we’ll be alright. This one speaks for itself.

Her line comes as a hat tip, of course, to Hollywood classic: 1939’s “Gone with the Wind.” If this feels a bit of an overused reference, however, don’t blame Nicole Kidman. Blame American Pop Culture!

Upon the film adaptation’s release, “Gone with the Wind” became an immediate sensation. It was the highest-earning movie ever released – holding this record for over 25 years. Factor in inflation, however, and the record’s never been broken. In adjusted USD, “Gone with the Wind” is still the highest-grossing film in history – bar none.

Couple this with it’s countless re-releases throughout the 20th and 21st centuries into cinemas, and you’ve got the recipe for the ultimate pop culture reference. So much so, that current Hollywood “royalty” like Nicole Kidman are captioning their wind-blown photos with the book-to-film’s title a staggering 82 years after its release:

Nicole Kidman’s Next Role? Lucille Ball

If your next question is: “What’s Nicole Kidman up to these days?” then boy, do we have an interesting answer for you.

Fans of timeless classic “I Love Lucy” know this, but the world is about to see Nicole Kidman as the comedic genius herself, Lucille Ball. She’s starring in the upcoming film “Being the Ricardos,” which will feature Kidman portraying Ball’s real-life self. The film’s title is a tad confusing, however, as it references television character of “Lucy Ricardo” rather than Lucille Ball.

The plot will focus on the lives of the “I Love Lucy” leads behind the scenes of the sitcom. Naturally, then, the next question is: “Who’s playing her fellow Ricardo?” And the answer is… as unconventional as casting Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball.

Javier Bardem will step into the shoes of Desi Arnaz. While a brilliant actor, it’s safe to say that Bardem’s trademark, unconventional handsomeness isn’t the obvious choice for baby-faced (and we say that with love) Arnaz. As Hollywood buffs know, however, it’s often the most unconventional of choices that lead to the most brilliant performances. And with talent like Kidman and Bardem backing these two television icons, we can’t wait to see what “Being the Ricardos” has in store.

And if that’s not enough to hook you by this article’s end, did you know that “I Love Lucy” star Lucille Ball auditioned for Scarlett O’Hara in “Gone With the Wind”? Talk about a full 360!
