Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond will star in a new Christmas movie, giving the Food Network a sliver of the rich holiday programming pie.

The Food Network produced Candy Coated Christmas. But it will be broadcast on Discovery Plus. As such, it’ll be the first original scripted movie to air on Discovery+. Drummond, as her fans know, hosts a show called the Pioneer Woman on the Food Network.

Variety broke the news about Candy Coated Christmas.

Kathleen Finch, Discovery’s chief lifestyle brands officer, told Variety that the network plan is to promote Candy Coated Christmas across the network channels. Their hope is to drive viewership and subscribers to Discovery+. That’s the streaming service that started earlier this year.

Christmas Movie Featuring Pioneer Woman Premieres in November

Candy Coated Christmas will premiere in November.

“It’s been a dream of ours to do this for a long time,” Finch told Variety. “Not only do we have the Discovery Plus platform to put the movie on, what’s exciting is that we have giant cable networks and digital platforms that we can really use to promote the movie in a super-sized way.”

Drummond, the Pioneer Woman star, will portray a bakery owner in Candy Coated Christmas. The movie stars Molly McCook. She’ll play a woman who returns to her mother’s hometown, which is named Peppermint Hollow, after she fails at starting her own business. Drummond’s role was specially written for her. The producers wanted someone authentically cheerful to portray the character.

“Ree is the epitome of a female-skewing Food Network talent,” Finch said of the Pioneer Woman star. “We put her and all these fun ideas into a pot and came up with this fun idea.”

Said Drummond: “Candy Coated Christmas was so much fun to be part of. It had all the magical elements that make holiday movies so special. Any initial nerves I felt about joining this project completely melted away when I stepped into the sweet, charming world of Peppermint Hollow.”

Food Network Will Use All its Holiday Shows to Promote Movie

The Food Network also will make the recipes from the movie part of its programming. According to Variety, the Food Network also has plans for more than 100 episodes to have a holiday focus to them between Halloween and New Year’s Day. And the Food Network will try to use all those holiday-themed shows to cross-promote Drummond and Candy Coated Christmas.

Since it’s still August, there’s not much of an immediate need to talk Christmas. Rather, stores are getting in Halloween decorations. And the Pioneer Woman and her latest show talks about Date Night. That’s the episode that ran Wednesday on the Food Network. The episode synopsis said that Drummond is on her Oklahoma ranch preparing “an extra special, Italian-inspired dinner for two.” Drummond prepares “date night chicken pasta.” And she also madr Everything Antipasto Salad and 4-Cheese Flatbreads. For dessert, Drummond served individual Mini Tiramisus.
