‘Pioneer Woman’ Ree Drummond Updates Fans on Condition of Husband and Nephew After Accident

by Quentin Blount

Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond is updating her fans on the condition of her husband and nephew following a crash that left them hospitalized.

Anne Marie “Ree” Drummond is a 52-year-old blogger, author, food writer, photographer, and television personality. She took to her official blog to share the latest update on her husband, Ladd, and nephew, Caleb, following an accident while putting out a wildfire on their ranch outside of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Drummond said it was the 11th wildfire they’ve had to fight on the ranch since just November.

She also took a moment to explain what the aftermath looked like when Ladd and Caleb’s fire rigs collided.

“Ladd was stiff but able to walk around immediately after the accident, so he refused medical attention,” Drummond wrote. “This was partly because he wanted the paramedics to focus on Caleb, partly because he was still a little stunned by the accident, and partly because cowboys don’t like to admit when they’re hurt.”

She goes on to explain that after Caleb’s ambulance left, her husband drove himself to the hospital in Pawhuska. He thought it was just going to be a quick trip in and out. However, that was not the case.

“Caleb and Ladd are going to be okay,” Drummond shares in her blog post. “Caleb broke some ribs, had a pretty bad concussion, and a few other injuries that will heal. Ladd broke his neck in two places — and evidently one of the two fractures was very close to being catastrophic. Have I mentioned cowboys don’t like to admit when they’re hurt?”

Her husband was then transferred to Tulsa where he had surgery to stabilize the fractures in his neck.

Ree Drummond Says ‘I Am Good’ Following Accident

The Pioneer Woman star says that her daughters came to help out with the animals and kids after the accident happened. It was just two days following the incident that they asked their mom if she was okay.

“I think they said, ‘Mom…how are you doing?'” Drummond recalls. “I looked at them and said, simply, ‘I am good.’ After all, we women are Steel Magnolias. Dealing with unexpected family happenings like this simply comes with the territory.”

It has been a rollercoaster of emotion without a doubt, but Drummond says that she is thankful for how things turned out.

“But really, I think I said ‘I am good’ because even though it’s been hard to see the guys in pain, I have such a vivid picture of how very different (and how much worse) things could have turned out for our family last week,” she explains. “And how different today could look. For both Caleb and Ladd to be okay — injured, yes, but fixable — after seeing the condition of their trucks makes me not want to spend one second complaining. I can’t even be mad at Ladd for driving himself to the hospital with a broken neck. I’m just so glad I’m home with him.”
