Federal prosecutors objected to R Kelly’s plea the court release him on bail. The singer feared for his safety after a MCC Chicago inmate attacked Kelly. But according to prosecutors, prison officials had moved the inmate to a new facility in Michigan.

According to TMZ, prosecutors believed Kelly’s attack to be an isolated event and that the singer isn’t in any harm. They disputed Kelly’s claim the attacker told an onsite doctor he attacked Kelly for attention on his own case. Prosecutors said the doctor denied the exchange ever happened.

Jeremiah Shane Farmer is the inmate that allegedly attack Kelly in his jail cell. According to court documents, Farmer claimed the “government made me attack” Kelly. He said he wanted to expose government corruption.

Others reported Farmer attacked Kelly because he grew angry with the singer. Protestors outside the prison for Kelly caused the facility to go into lockdown several times. The alleged assault took place the morning of August 26. The attacker assaulted Kelly, punching him in the torso and and head. A prison guard broke up the altercation with pepper spray.

R Kelly’s tried several times to get an early release.

Earlier this year, Kelly also attempted to get an early release from jail due to coronavirus concerns. Because he has diabetes, Kelly said he had a higher risk of contracting it. The court rejected Kelly’s plea. Since the singer has been in jail, the court has rejected three appeals for an early release.

Federal investigators arrested Kelly in February 2019 and charged him with sexually abusing four women. A judge released him on a $100,000 bail. But law enforcement re-arrested Kelly in June of that year on multiple counts of racketeering, forced labor, production of child pornography, sexually exploiting children and also obstructing justice. He’s been in jail held without bail since then. If convicted, Kelly faces 10 years to life in prison, according to Billboard.

Prosecutors also claim Kelly poses a threat to public safety and is a potential flight risk should he be released on bail.
