Rapper DMX is hospitalized and on life support after suffering a heart attack, according to his lawyer on Saturday night.
Attorney Murray Richmond told CNN that DMX suffered a heart attack on Friday night at his home in White Plains, N.Y. Richmond said that he is currently on a ventilator. The attorney also confirmed that he’d been in touch with the rapper’s family throughout the day.
Richmond added that he is aware of his client’s health prognosis. He did not reveal any further details.
TMZ Reports DMX Suffered Drug Overdose At Home
While Richmond did not give out specifics, TMZ reported that DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, suffered a drug overdose. According to someone who spoke to TMZ, the prognosis for DMX “is not looking good.”
A familiy representative late Saturday afternoon released this statement that TMZ picked up.
“Last night, Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home,” the statement said. “At this time, he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer.
“The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support, and prayers for Earl,” the statement continues. “Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”
Rapper Put Five Straight Albums At No. 1 Position
DMX started his rap career in the 1990s. His best-selling album has been “… And Then There Was X,” which was released in 1999. DMX stands for “Dark Man X.”
He was born on Dec. 18, 1970, in Mount Vernon, N.Y. DMX has had a litany if legal issues in his life dating back to 1986.
Despite all of that trouble, the recording artist had five consecutive albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts.
