Robert Redford – one of the biggest names in film – and Bruce Springsteen – one of the biggest names in rock and roll – are joining forces for a new documentary.
According to Variety, that new documentary is titled “The Mustangs: America’s Wild Horses.”
Redford is an executive producer of the film. Springsteen is contributing music to the film’s soundtrack.
As the documentary’s title suggests, the new documentary will focus on the wild horses that call the United States of America home. The film will examine the history of these horses. It will also look at what the coming years could hold for the animals.
The horses showcased in this project from Robert Redford and Bruce Springsteen live in government corrals, as well as on public lands. There are 50,000 wild horses that live in the government corrals, while 80,000 live on public lands. These animals are battling for their very existence, according to Redford.
“America’s wild horses are fighting their last stand. Increasing competition for our natural resources threatens our wilderness areas, our wild horses and other wildlife species. Horses are interwoven into the very fabric of what is America. What threatens them threatens us all,” Robert Redford said.
New Robert Redford Documentary Will Also Highlight Veterans’ Relationships with Wild Horses
The upcoming documentary isn’t just about the wild horses and their struggle to survive. The film will also examine how the horses are helping veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is the organization, Operation Wild Horse, that is bringing veterans and wild horses together. It is this aspect of the film that makes it special, according to a veterans advocate.
“‘The Mustangs’ highlights the importance of addressing the pressures of PTSD and the ‘hidden wounds of war.’ I commend the film for showcasing the work of veterans who are making a difference,” said Gerry Byrne, the vice chairman of the Penske Media Corporation.
In addition to Bruce Springsteen, some other very big names in music are part of the soundtrack. For example, both Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris will appear.
A new song titled, “Never Gonna Tame You” will be released for the film. The writer of this new song is Diana Warren. She has received 12 Academy Award nominations. Warren is also a co-producer for the documentary.
The Robert Redford and Bruce Springsteen project, “The Mustangs: America’s Wild Horses” is being released by Virgil Films. Its theatrical release date is Friday, Oct. 15. It will also be released for viewing on-demand. That on-demand release will take place in November 2021.
A few upcoming film festivals will also include the documentary in their lineups. These include Film Fest 919, the Edmonton International Film Festival, the Heartland International Film Festival, and the Newport Beach Film Festival.
