If you haven’t heard Ree Drummond’s name yet, you will soon enough. The Oklahoman has built up a pretty steady fanbase over the past 15 years since starting her “Pioneer Woman” blog back in 2006. It details life on a working ranch just outside of little Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She shares stunning food photography alongside the comforts of some stunning recipes. It’s even won her a handful of awards over the years.
Now, Ree Drummond is expanding her career in new ways, namely with her first-ever acting role. Catch the first look at the trailer for “Candy Coated Christmas” below.
‘Food Network’ Star Ree Drummond Plays the Owner of a Bakery in Upcoming Christmas Flick
Ree Drummond’s new Christmas flick actually ticks off a lot of “firsts” for not only her but the networks involved as well. For example, “Candy Coated Christmas” takes the title of Discovery Plus’s first original film. Additionally, it marks Food Network’s first-ever scripted feature. While Drummond is no stranger to cameras, this will be her first scripted role. The official drop comes on November 19th, just in time to get you in that holiday spirit.
Here’s a first look with some behind-the-scenes content. It features several of the cast as well as an inside look into their wardrobe and set designs:
Drummond plays bakery owner Bee who sets up shop in the fictional peppermint capital of the world, Peppermint Hollow. Her character ends up meeting another woman, Molly Gallant, whose family business faces an uncertain future. The storyline sees love, family, trials, and tribulations– but it’s nothing a peppermint brownie can’t fix.
“I am so incredibly honored that Food Network asked me to play Bee,” Drummond gushes. “If I get to be in just one movie in my life, I want it to be a Christmas movie.”
A Magical Set Put Her Mind at Ease
Being her first scripted project, “Candy Coated Christmas” did bring Ree Drummond some initial anxiety. This lessened as time went on, however.
“Candy Coated Christmas was so much fun to be part of; it had all the magical elements that make holiday movies so special,” she said around the film’s initial announcement. “Any initial nerves I felt about joining this project completely melted away when I stepped into the sweet, charming world of Peppermint Hollow!”
She and Molly McCook (Last Man Standing) are joined by a slew of other talents. For example, the flick sees Aaron O’Connell of The Haves and The Have Nots as well as Jae Suh Park of The Big Short. John McCook from The Bold and the Beautiful also joins the cast. The movie comes written and directed by a trio: Alex Yonks, Ellie Kanner, and Joey Plager.
