Comedian and “Shameless” actor Ricarlo Flanagan died tragically at the age of 40 this week. No official cause of death has been announced. On October 1, Flanagan tweeted that he was feeling the effects of the coronavirus.

The 40-year old budding star was still toward the beginning of his entertainment career. Ricarlo gained recognition as a finalist on Season 9 of “Last Comic Standing.” From there, he landed small roles on “The Carmichael Show,” “Shameless,” and “Walk the Prank.”

Due to the show’s popularity, Flanagan’s role on “Shameless” was probably his most recognizable. He played a character named Davey, appearing in four episodes of Season 8.

Stu Golfman, Flanagan’s agent, gave a statement to Deadline following the actor’s death.

“Ricarlo was one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life and a joy to work for. He will be missed dearly,” said Golfman.

An ominous tweet from the beginning of October has some folks convinced COVID-19 is responsible for the entertainer’s untimely death. However, that has yet to be confirmed.

Flanagan’s Entertainment Career

According to Fox News, Ricarlo Flanagan started out in entertainment after signing up for a comedy class in Ann Arbor, Michigan, circa 2007. He quickly discovered a natural gift for making people laugh, and his career was born. Flanagan went from entry-level comedy class to finalist on a TV show pitting him against other top-notch comics in just a few years.

Established jokesters hotly contest the merits of “Last Comic Standing” for the advancement of a comedian’s career. However, most agree that despite the show’s format being less than ideal, the exposure is invaluable. Flanagan turned that platform into serious acting opportunities.

According to IMDb, Flanagan had a role for a character named Q in an upcoming TV movie titled “The Tingle.” The movie is currently in pre-production and has no listed release date.
