‘Station 19’ Alum Okieriete Onaodowan Finds His Next Project

Following his departure from ABC’s hit series Station 19,  Okieriete Onaodowan has reportedly scored his next role on Amazon Prime Video’s Jack Ryan series.

According to Deadline, the former Station 19 star is now a series regular opposite of John Krasinski’s Jack Ryan. Zuleikha Robinson of The Exorcist, and Louis Ozawa of Hunters are also joining the series.  

The show’s crew took to Instagram to announce the exciting news about Onaodowan’s involvement. The post reads, “This intel just in. Zuleikha Robinson, Louis Ozawa, Okieriete Onaodowan, Nancy Lenehan and Derek Cecil are joining in for the fourth mission.”

Jack Ryan first premiered on August 31, 2018. Its second season debut on October 31, 2019. The series has since been renewed for seasons three and four. Jack Ryan’s third season is expected to premiere sometime in 2022. There is yet to be any information of what Onaodowan’s role will be in the action-packed series.

Okieriete Onaodowan Spoke About His Departure from ‘Station 19’ 

In a statement to Deadline, Okieriete Onaodowan shared details about his departure from Station 19 after being a regular on the series since the beginning. “It’s been a pleasure being Dean,” Onaodowan stated. “I have Shonda Rhimes, Stacy McKee, Krista Vernon, Paris Barclay, and ABC to thank for allowing me to bring him to life.”

The now Station 19 alum also shared that he is grateful he got to work with the most loving, kind, and dedicated crew in network TV. “Thanks to the fans for showing Dean so much love. I hope he has inspired you to change your world for the better. Be the change!”

The media outlet then revealed that Onaodowan had actually approached the Station 19 producers with a request to leave the series at the end of last season. He then agreed to come back for the first few episodes of the show’s fifth season in order to wrap up the story of his character, Dean Miller. 

Meanwhile, Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy executive producer/showrunner, Krista Vernon, issued a statement about Onaodowan’s departure. “I am a better artist and human for having had the opportunity to work with Okieriete Onaodowan. I am heartbroken by the loss of Dean Miller and that I no longer get to write for Oak.”

Vernoff went on to share that Onaodowan has an expansive spirit. The actor is also ready to create new artistic horizons. However, he will be incredibly missed on Station 19. “I truly can’t wait to see what he does next. It will be powerful, it will be deep, and it will be courageous.”

The death of Onaodowan’s character was foreshowed in a promo for Station 19Grey’s Anatomy crossover episode. It was also teased a massive explosion and a warning that “Not Everyone Will Survive.”
