Steve Irwin’s Wife Terri Says Late-Husband Would Be ‘Beyond Proud’ of New Mother Bindi Irwin

Almost 15 years after wildlife enthusiast Steve Irwin passed away, his wife Terri says her late-husband would be “beyond proud” of his daughter after she just gave birth to a baby girl.

Bindi Irwin and her husband, Chandler Powell, welcomed their first child, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, to the world on Thursday. “The Crocodile Hunter” would’ve been a first-time granddad if he was still with us. However, Terri knows how excited he would’ve been for Bindi and Chandler and the rest of the family.

Terri Irwin posted on her official Twitter account to celebrate the birth of her granddaughter. She shared how happy she is and said that “love” doesn’t adequately describe her overwhelming feelings of joy for Grace. In addition, she’s excited for the young one to follow in Steve Irwin’s footsteps and continue his legacy.

“Love is not a big enough word. My heart is so incredibly happy. And I know that Steve would be beyond proud,” Terri wrote on Twitter. “Grace is the next generation to continue his mission and message of conservation. She chose her parents wisely. Bindi and Chandler are already the best parents ever!”

Steve Irwin’s wife also reposted their daughter’s adorable message announcing Grace’s birth. On Friday, Bindi shared that she gave birth to Grace on Thursday, which was also her and Chandler’s first wedding anniversary. She shared that the name Grace was her great-grandmother’s name. Additionally, the name dates back to the 1700s within her husband’s family.

It’s obvious the entire family is already smitten with the newest member of the Irwin clan. And that includes Bindi’s brother, Robert, who is already looking forward to “uncle adventures,” according to his Instagram post.

Steve Irwin Would’ve Been ‘Over The Moon’ To Be a Granddad

During a recent interview before Bindi gave birth to Grace, the whole family sat down to talk about preparing for the little one’s arrival. Previous to the new season of Crikey! It’s the Irwins in February, the family spoke with Entertainment Tonight.

Bindi knows her father, Steve Irwin, would have been a great grandpa. She joked that they never would’ve seen their daughter since “The Crocodile Hunter” would’ve whisked her away into the zoo all day. Bindi also added that she’s glad she’ll be able to introduce Grace to her granddad through all of his documentaries and TV appearances.

“He would’ve been a good, good grandpa. Yeah, he really would’ve been,” Bindi said to ET. “I don’t think we would’ve ever seen our daughter. He would’ve just whisked her away into the zoo and it would’ve been perfect. But it is so nice that we’ll be able to introduce her to her grandfather through all of the documentaries. It’s really special.”

Steve Irwin’s wife, Terri, agreed and added that he would’ve been “over the moon” to be a grandpa. She also joked about his penchant for wearing khaki.

“He’d be over the moon,” Terri added. “I will say one thing for sure is you would never have to wonder what he would’ve worn during any of the milestones. He would’ve worn khaki to the wedding, khaki to everything.”
