‘Storage Wars’ Star Dan Dotson Looks Back on 1-Year Anniversary of When His Son Was Shot But Survived

by Taylor Cunningham

One year ago, Storage Wars star Dan Dotson got a call from the Lake Havasu, AZ, police department—his son Garrett had been shot. Garrett suffered life-threatening injuries, but he survived. On Twitter, Dotson reflected on how thankful he is to still have his son.

Garrett was enjoying a date while visiting Lake Havasu. As he was walking back to his car, a stranger began to yell at Garrett from the parking lot. After the two “exchanged words,” the stranger shot him once in the abdomen. The attacker was later arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, drive-by shooting, misconduct involving weapons, disorderly conduct with a weapon, and endangerment.

Garrett managed to call 911 himself. But when EMS arrived they found a bullet in a main blood vessel. And later, doctors also determined that his spine was fractured.

After arriving at the local hospital, Garrett’s condition began to deteriorate quickly. And he had to be airlifted to a trauma hospital in Las Vegas. The situation was so dire that a doctor held his hand on Garrett’s chest to stop him from bleeding out in the helicopter.

“Things changed from stable to critical condition airlifted to Las Vegas just landed in surgery now. Praise to our heavenly father,” Dan told his Twitter followers.

Garrett fought hard and survived the attack, but he went through a long recovery in the ICU.
