Survivor season 41, episode 9 aired last Wednesday, and there was a lot to learn. With two significant contenders going home and the pool of remaining castaways dwindling down, next week should be exciting. The episode saw a controversial and challenging twist. The twist puts the remaining castaways into two different groups, each tasked with voting someone else.

These groups are chosen at random, and unfortunately for one contestant, Evvie, this wound up being a big problem. At this point in the game, it’s clear there’s a large in-group mostly led by Shan. She has maneuvered the game fairly strategically thus far.

But that’s caused some issues as not all are willing to simply let her get her way. With three idols still in the game, Ricard was not so willing to let Shan’s target of the week, Erica, then Heather, be the ones to get the ax.

During the immunity and reward competition, the remaining contestants got split into two groups. The winner of each group got immunity. Then, the person who won the entire challenge won their group hot stew. Running on fumes, the team had to stand on some excruciating wooden dowels in a battle of endurance and pain tolerance.

A big takeaway here is that those on the bottom tier, on the social outs, always seem to have a habit of winning immunity. A good strategy could be to keep those relationships strong.

On the losing team, Erica came out on top, winning immunity but not the beef stew. Xander meanwhile won immunity and stew for his entire team consisting of himself, Liana, Danny, DeShawn, and Evvie. Considering that Liana, Danny, and DeShawn were working together and Xander had immunity, viewers at home almost immediately knew how it was going to go on that side.

‘Survivor 41’ Episode 9 Saw a Major Blindside

The other group had a far more interesting dynamic. With Ricard, Shan, Heather, Erica, and Naseer, Ricard made a plea to Shan to realize how important it was to vote out Naseer, who has an idol, over Heather, who has proven she may not be the strongest player.

Eventually, that whole group decided on voting Naseer out and completely blindsiding him at tribal, so he wouldn’t play his immunity idol. Brutal- and it was tough to see him go- but it was a great play nonetheless.

The big takeaway for any aspiring survivor players here: never feel too safe.

The episode also has a segment about how Ricard is hard of hearing and showed the fallout of the last tribal where Heather, who has had virtually no air time, ruffled a ton of feathers.

Going into the next episode, there are still two immunity idols floating around. It’s anyone’s guess who’s going to go next. Tune in to CBS on Wednesdays at 8/7 CT to catch new episodes.
