Survivor 41 contestant Liana Wallace revealed why she wanted to be eliminated through voting.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wallace spoke about making the right call in terms of not partaking in the challenge rather than the Do or Die twist.
“My initial thought is like, ‘I want to go out of this game with people voting me out. I don’t want to take a 1-in-3 chance,'” she explained. “And we didn’t even know what the percentage chance was. And furthermore, on top of that, I knew in terms of individual immunity challenges, I was often one of the initial people to go out.”
Wallace believed that the likelihood of her dropping first would have been high. She’s also “terrible” at stuff like the little balls. Because of this, she decided to go with another plan.
“So I was like, ‘This is a no for me. You will vote me out of the game, and I’m not gonna take this kind of toss-up.’ And so I felt good about that decision,” she added. “And I still feel good about it. I was surprised to see that more people wanted to compete given that it was this very volatile thing — we didn’t know how they’d be going out of the game in terms of the Do or Die twist.”
At the end of the day, she confirmed that she stands by her decision despite its outcome. Fans are now debating whether the do or die challenge should even be in the show to begin with.
‘Survivor 41’ Liana’s Thoughts on Xander and Evvie
When asked about her current thoughts about Xander, she confirmed that he is an “amazing person”. She described him as genuine, kind, and a sweetheart. She didn’t enjoy how he was misconstrued in the game.
“It provides some things that led to that relationship and dynamic between us,” she explained. At Yase Camp there were a few things that contributed to her relationship with Xander. When he first found the idol, not letting her find out about it, and her relationship with Evvie.
Wallace revealed that since day one on Survivor 41, he did not want to work with her at all. She didn’t know the reason why but didn’t make a huge deal out of it but knew that he saw her as a threat and should aim to get him out of the game.
“I think this is kind of downplayed in the episodes, but me and Evvie were actually really close,” she revealed.
It wasn’t until after losing the immunity challenges that Wallace suggested that she should play up her relationship with Xander. This was in order to make the merge so when they went to Tribal Council he wouldn’t play one of his advantages against them. So during that time she decided to downplay her relationship with Evvie and no real friends in the game.
“It’s just time after time I couldn’t find a way to convince people that Xander was dangerous and needed to be voted out,” she added. “And so that just followed me throughout the game. And so when I’m looking at him, he’s super excited about this challenge, and he’s like, ‘This is my challenge!’ I’m like, ‘Come on!’ All of this just led up to this moment. And so I was irritated in that moment for sure.”
