‘SWAT’ Season 5 Premiere: Full Recap

Get excited, SWAT fans! The CBS hit series returned on Friday (October 1st) and we have an exciting recap of the fifth season’s first episode.

The fifth season premiere of SWAT kicked off with Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr. (Shemar Moore) randomly leaving town. He notably was in trouble in LA after he informed media outlets about the racism in the police department. 

Hondo’s superiors actually wanted him to either quit or make him deal with ramifications that would result in him quitting later. Instead of putting up with the situation, Hondo heading to Mexico to a friend’s ranch. 

But while in Mexico, the SWAT character encountered a white man threatening a woman’s farmhands. The woman was identified as Delfina Reyes, who inherited the fame after her father passed away in the fields one day. She is currently being pressured to sell the family to the white guy, who is named AJ Novak. 

While Novak and his crew were threatening Reyes’ farmhands, Hondo stepped in and got them to back off. He was later threatened by police for causing trouble in the area.  Although he wasn’t responsible for the situation, Hondo reassured the police that he just wanted to lay low and avoid trouble.

Unfortunately, Hondo didn’t stay out of trouble for too long. He proceeded to hear more details about Novak and how much his father wanted Reyes’ farm. Novak even offers Reyes money to purchase the land. But she rejects his offer multiple times. 

While Hondo was assisting Reyes into town, the duo encountered Novak and his crew again, this time with Gabriel, who is Reyes’ ex-fiance. Needless to say, there was exchanging of threats. The episode ends with the audience curious about Novak’s mysterious father. 

Shemar Moore Shares Some Snapshots of This Week’s Episode of ‘SWAT’ 

During SWAT’s fifth season premiere, Shemar Moore took to his Instagram page to share some on-the-set snapshots. “FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHT NIGHT on @swatcbs !!!!! TUNE IN FOR THE SEASON 5 PREMIERE TONIGHT AT 8 PM!!!!!! 👊🏽👊🏽💪🏽💪🏽🧨🧨,” he captioned the post.

Moore previously shared a video of himself on set for the fifth season’s first episode. He is seen wearing a cowboy hat walking around on Reyes’ farm.

SWAT first premiered in November 2017. The show is based on the 1975 TV series with the same name. The show notably exists in the same universe as The Shield. According to its IMDb, the series follows Moore’s Hondo as well as his team to solve crime in the greater Los Angeles area. 

Starring in SWAT is Moore, Stephanie Sigman, Alex Russell, Lina Esco, and Kenny Johnson. SWAT now has five seasons and a total of 85 episodes.
