‘S.W.A.T.’: Shemar Moore Opened Up on ‘Embracing’ Challenges of Filming Show in Recent Times

by Matthew Memrick

“S.W.A.T.” star Shemar Moore recounted his show’s challenges while filming during recent times.

In a 2020 CBS interview, Moore called filming “a little strange,” but said the cast was eager to push through.

“We’re making it happen, and I’m very proud,” he said.

The actor and producer said his action show was the first to come back on network television and the first one-hour drama to be back.

Moore went on to say new show regulations and testing came with the turf. Hands-on action, cops chasing bad guys, wrestling bad guys to the ground called for the particular precautions.

The S.W.A.T actor said embracing the whole process was vital because “it is what it is” and everyone “would rather be safe.”

Last month, Deadline reported that public health officials that there were five positive tests at the show’s Santa Clarita Studios North of Los Angeles. Despite the outbreak, the show’s production did not stop.

On Day 4 of the Season 5 production, show star Kenny Johnson, who plays Dominique Luca, posted a still from the set. Seemingly, all looked well.

‘S.W.A.T’ Show A Labor Of Love For Moore

Moore’s breakthrough success with “S.W.A.T.” came at the right time for the actor.

“When I got S.W.A.T., it was a moment of pride for me. I’ve worked hard, and I defied the odds,” he said.

Over the years, Moore has become a significant car collector. When he succeeded with his former show, “Criminal Minds,” he went out and bought an Audi F8.

Moore has amassed quite the collection of vehicles over the years. He’s purchased cars like Mercedes-AMG GTR, a Range Rover Autobiography, a Rezvani Tank SUV, and a Ferrari F8 Tributo, just to name a few.

‘S.W.A.T’ Seriousness Gives Way To Comedy

The show’s high-intensity approach does need its moments of levity. For example, Moore released a blooper reel of clips from the show. He also announced that “S.W.A.T.” Season 4 was now on DVD and Digital.

“Homies, Fans, N Baby Girls!!! @swatcbs SEASON 4 is available now on DVD & DIGITAL ….. Just in time to catch up before SEASON 5 premieres OCT 1st!!!!!”

Moore Says ‘S.W.A.T’ About ‘A Thrill Ride’

The actor hopes that “S.W.A.T.” audiences get a “thrill ride” from the show. He wants viewers to get something that can “make you think or move you.”

The producer says he’s grateful that show producers Sony and CBS give him and the writers a chance to tell LAPD S.W.A.T. stories.

Moore said “we literally are LAPD S.W.A.T.” in terms of TV vision and portrayal.

While Moore and the cast play “super cops,” he said those cops still have real-life controversies. Despite all that, he hopes the mission of “showing the good (people) trying to help people believe in the good” is achievable.

The CBS show’s Season 5 will hit screens on Oct. 1.
