“S.W.A.T.” fans are ready to see star Shemar Moore in action this Friday, Oct. 1 on CBS as our favorite LAPD Sergeant, Hondo.
Though, it sounds like he won’t be a sergeant for long. When we left off with Hondo at the end of Season 4, he’d just been demoted after making some comments to the press about racism at LAPD. His comments sparked protests around the city, leading his bosses to demote him from squad leader. Hondo didn’t take the news well. And from the looks of some behind-the-scenes pics, Hondo appears to be taking some time off in Mexico.
That’s where Shemar Moore seems to be in the latest behind-the-scenes pics he posted on Instagram. The “S.W.A.T.” star’s posted several pics from that location, showing off Hondo in a cowboy hat and riding a horse. In his latest photo, we see Moore as Hondo interacting with a new lady friend, who just might become a love interest this season.
“Homies, Fans, n Baby Girls!!! Only 5 days until the @swatcbs SEASON 5 premiere…. Here’s a few BTS pics of what leads up to a wild chase scene that you don’t want to miss!!!
In the first photo, Shemar Moore as Hondo is all smiles with his new friend. But the rest of the photos show him focused and concentrated on an urgent task, as he drives through the street and forests of Mexico. We’ll have to wait until Friday’s two-hour season premiere to find out what’s urging him to act this way.
But “S.W.A.T.” showrunner and executive producer Shawn Ryan gave viewers a sneak peek at what to expect from Shemar Moore’s character at the start of the new season.
‘S.W.A.T.’ Star Shemar Moore Prepares for New Conflict in Mexico in Season 5
Ryan talked to TV Insider about Hondo’s new vacation spot in Mexico and what it means for Hondo to be out of L.A.
“He feels bruised and battered despite having done the right thing,” Ryan said. “A lot of his swagger is gone. He’s soul searching about what to do with his life.”
While soul-searching, Shemar Moore’s character runs into a young woman and her mother who lives close to his new home. Hondo rescues them from some land-grabbers, striking up a connection with the young woman. We’ll have to see if Hondo’s interest in this woman extends past the two-hour season premiere, especially since it looks like he’s about to jump into some dangerous situations.
It helps that Hondo gets some backup from his team. Ryan confirmed that Hondo and the team will reunite by the second hour of the episode while still in Mexico. We’ll see if Shemar Moore’s character decides to return to L.A. after that.
