Sylvester Stallone Heading Back to the Big Screen with Jason Statham, Megan Fox for Upcoming ‘Expendables’ Film

Are you a fan of Sylvester Stallone? Or (and) Jason Statham and Megan Fox? Or, maybe you just love the “Expendables” films? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, the upcoming “The Expendables” sequel is a film you won’t want to miss.

According to Variety, this sequel to the popular action franchise “is in the works.” Also, this sequel will be the fourth film in the universe.

Stallone and Statham are returning to the “The Expendables” universe. According to IMDb, Stallone played the character of Barney Ross. Statham has played the character Lee Christmas. The plot of the first installment followed a CIA operative as “he hires a team of mercenaries to eliminate a Latin dictator and a renegade CIA agent.”

Sylvester Stallone also directed and served as a co-writer for the first film in the franchise. Dave Callaham helped the famous movie star write the script. The original film was released in 2010. It also starred Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Terry Crews, and Mickey Rourke. There was also a cameo by Arnold Schwarzenegger in this movie.

While Stallone and Statham are returning, so are Lundgren and Couture. Lundgren played the character of Gunner Jensen. Couture has played Toll Road.

New Faces Are Joining Sylvester Stallone and Company in ‘The Expendables’ Universe

Megan Fox is a newcomer to “The Expendables” universe. Also coming along for the ride are famous rapper 50 Cent and famous martial artist Tony Jaa.

Directing this new addition to “The Expendables” franchise is Scott Waugh. The screenplay has been created by Spenser Cohen. Revisions to the script were reportedly made by Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly. Lionsgate and Millennium Media are producing the film. Sylvester Stallone and company should begin shooting it in the fall of 2021.

“We are thrilled to partner with our friends at Millennium Media for the next installment of the ‘Expendables franchise,” Jason Constantine, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s president of acquisitions and co-productions also said. “It’s so much fun to bring these stars together for a no-holds-barred action film. The new film will raise the stakes and be the biggest, most badass adventure yet.”

Also, the upcoming sequel to “The Expendables” will be the fourth in the franchise.

“The Expendables 2” was released in 2012. In this film, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Liam Hemsworth got in on the fun. This installment was directed by Simon West. Once again, Sylvester Stallone was one of the writers of the screenplay.

“The Expendables 3” hit the big screen in 2014. And, in keeping with tradition, this film added even more famous Hollywood names to its cast list. Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Kelsey Grammer, Antonio Banderas all came on board. Former MMA star Ronda Rousey also had a role in this sequel.
