Taco Bell plans to remove its Mexican Pizza from the menu, but fans aren’t taking this lying down.

Following Taco Bell’s announcement that it would be removing several menu items, fans leapt into action. A petition demanding that the restaurant keep the popular item quickly sprang up online.

The petition, called “Dave the Mexican Pizza,” has reached 35,000 signatures. They’re all from people who don’t want to say goodbye to the item. It urges supporters to purchase as many Mexican Pizzas as possible in addition to signing.

“This is an item loved by many, especially the South Asian community,” the petition reads. “Losing this item would not only be the loss of one of our favorite foods but a piece of our childhood and heritage as Indian Americans.”

It isn’t only fans who are urging the chain to keep the pizza. Singer Doja Cat took to social media to ask Taco Bell to keep the item. She also asked them to bring back the spicy potato soft taco. “I’m asking you nicely first,” she joked.

Taco Bell may already have made up its mind

It’s unlikely Taco Bell will be receptive to what fans are practically begging for. Recently, Taco Bell president Mike Grams offered a statement in a press release.

“While we know fans may be understandably sad to see some of their favorites go, this evolution of our menu truly paves the way for fresh new ideas,” said Grams. “The creativity and innovation in our kitchen hasn’t slowed down at all, and we look forward to rolling out new fan favorites.”

Taco Bell previously attested that taking the Mexican Pizza off of its menu is a move that’s good for the environment. The pizza’s packaging contributes over 7 million pounds of paperboard material to dumps every year.

Will the Mexican Pizza remain on the menu? If fans get their way, it will. Otherwise, it might be time to say goodbye.
