‘The Brady Bunch’ Actor Maureen McCormick Sent Emotional Message to Those Struggling with Addiction in 2017

All in solidary! The Brady Bunch actor Maureen McCormick sent an emotional message to those struggling with addiction – it is nothing to be ashamed of and there is help out there.

In a 2017 interview at the Summer Spectacular benefiting the Brent Shapiro Foundation for Drug Prevention with Entertainment Tonight, Maureen McCormick shares her support for others who are fighting their personal addiction battles.

“If you’re an addictive personality, it’s a disease and it’s nothing to be ashamed of,” The Brady Bunch alum states.

Mauren also observes that there are so many people today that just incredibly embarrassed of their addiction struggles and considers the issues signs of weakness.

“That’s what we’re all here for on this Earth, right? To help each other and to talk about our experiences because that’s how we all heal and get better.”

‘The Brady Bunch’s’ Maureen McCormick Reveals How Marriage Help Overcome Her Addiction

Also during her interview, The Brady Bunch star reveals that she struggled with drug addiction for six to seven years, describing the experience as awful. The actress, who has been sober for 35 years, states that her life has never been so good. 

McCormick does give her husband, Michael Cummings, credit for giving her “tough love” and inspired her to get and remain sober.

“When we first got together, I was still dabbling,” The Brady Bunch alum admits. “You know, it’s either me or that, take it or I’m out of here.” Maureen says she then realized she didn’t want to lose “one of the greatest things” she had ever found. \

Maureen Talks About Addiction Struggles Both On & Off Set

Maureen then reveals that her addiction destroyed the relationship between her and her parents. “I remember my father saying that he was going to turn me in to the police,” McCormick recalls.

“I wish I could take back all the pain that I caused them.” Maureen also admits“I destroyed certain jobs, there were some where I was really high and it was bad. It was really bad.”

Maureen goes on to state that she is very grateful and lucky to be alive, adding, “I feel like my mind is still really good. I feel very very lucky that I came out of it.” McCormick then adds that since becoming sober, she is working hard to inspire others who are struggling with the same issues. 

Maureen McCormick was on The Brady Bunch as Marcia Brady from September 1969 to March 1974. The hit sitcom had a total of 5 seasons with 117 episodes. The show was followed by The Brady Brides, A Very Brady Christmas, and The Bradys. Following the end of The Brady Bunch, McCormick became addicted to cocaine and quaaludes. She married Cummings in 1985 and went through a series of interventions as well as stints in rebab and experimental therapies before becoming sober.
