‘The Brady Bunch’: Barry Williams Portraying Mike Brady, Christopher Knight Still Peter in ‘RuPaul’ Crossover Event

by Amy Myers

The Brady Bunch just got a makeover—literally. Paired up with the stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race, five of the original Brady kids joined teams with drag queens for a whole new look at America’s favorite family.

In an effort to revamp the show in an exciting and modern way, Paramount+ and MTV Entertainment Studios decided to pair the 70s sitcom with the reality drag competition.

As a result, five actors of the original Brady cast and six drag queens will be joining forces to recreate the classic The Brady Bunch episode from Season 2, “Will the Real Jan Brady Please Stand Up?” In the episode, middle child Jan Brady adopts a new hairstyle to shake things up from her usual long, blond locks.

While almost all of the original The Brady Bunch kids have returned for the crossover, don’t expect them to portray the same characters they did in the 70s. In fact, two of the sitcom’s actors will be playing whole new characters on the show. And of course, the drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race will star right alongside the actors to complete the Brady family–minus Tiger the dog.

Let’s meet the family.

‘The Brady Bunch’ New Characters and New Faces

Here’s the story of a lovely lady, and her name is Bianca del Rio. Del Rio is featured on Season 6 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and will be portraying the family matriarch, Carol Brady.

And she raised three very lovely girls.

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 5 champ Shea Couleé will play the eldest daughter, Marcia Brady. All Stars Season 6 champ Kylie Sonique Love will portray middle daughter, Jan Brady. And Season 13 star Kandy Muse will play the pigtailed Cindy Brady.

Here’s where you might start to recognize some familiar faces. Instead of portraying the eldest Brady boy, Barry Williams has graduated to the patriarch of The Brady Bunch as Mike Brady. Although he still has his charming Greg Brady smile, Williams has on a wig that imitates late Robert Reed’s curly brown hair.

However, despite Williams’ change of roles, two characters from the original family remained with their original actors. Mike Lookinland still portrays the baby of the family, Bobby Brady, and Christopher Knight still plays Peter Brady.

Of course, we can’t forget Alice! Equipped with the signature blue dress, Season 11 Miss Congeniality winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race will play the dry-humored and irreplaceable housekeeper.

Who does that leave?

Eve Plumb, the actress who originally played Jan Brady, and Susan Olsen, who originally played Cindy, are adopting new faces to the show. Plumb will portray a blond-haired girl named Lucy. Olsen will be playing a red-haired girl with thick glasses and huge front teeth named Margie.

The crossover will premiere on Paramount+ on Wednesday, June 30.
