‘The Brady Bunch’: How a Bidding War for the Iconic Brady Residence Went Down in 2018

Here’s a story of a lovely…bidding war for The Brady Bunch house. We’ve got all the details on how HGTV and Lance Bass battled it out for the iconic home.

Have you ever heard of a 2,500 square foot home selling for well over $1.8 million? Neither have we! However, when a house is as iconic as The Brady Bunch home, we understand the high price tag. The home, located at 11222 Dilling Street in Studio City, California, is reportedly the second most photographed house in the U.S. after the White House. The house earned its debut in the second-ever episode of The Brady Bunch in 1969. From then on, the house was in every single episode until the show’s end in 1974.

Which explains why both the popular home renovation television network, HGTV and former ‘NSYNC member and current TV host, Lance Bass entered into a bidding war when the house went on the market in 2018. The home was originally listed for $1.88 million with Douglas Elliman. Both HGTV and Bass offered well over the asking price.  That’s when things started to get heated.

The Brady Bunch Home bidding War Begins

Apparently, Bass thought that he won the bid for the home. He even announced his excitement to friends and family before the listing agent called and told him that another buyer outbid him. He wasn’t aware that the other bidder was HGTV. Bass took to Instagram to share his frustration.

“I’m feeling heartbroken today,” Bass wrote. “As many of you may have heard, we placed the winning bid on the iconic Brady Bunch house — at least that’s what we were told, “he said. “The next day, due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ the same agent informed us that there’s another Corporate Buyer (Hollywood studio) who wants the house at any cost. “We were prepared to go even higher,” he said. However, the agent discouraged them from doing saying that the buyer would “outperform any bid with unlimited resources.”

Meanwhile, Discovery INC. CEO David Zaslav excitedly shared the news that HGTV purchased The Brady Bunch house.

“I am excited to share that HGTV is the winning bidder and will restore The Brady Bunch home to its 1970s glory as only HGTV can,” Zaslav said. “More details to come over the next few months, but we will bring all the resources to bear to tell safe, fun stories with this beloved piece of American TV history,” he said.

Lance Bass Congratulates HGTV And Even Visits The Renovated Home

Once Bass learned that HGTV was the buyer who outbid him, he changed his tune and congratulated the network.

“HGTV??! Aw man” wrote Bass. “I’d be pretty upset if it were anyone else, but how can you be mad at HGTV?? My television is stuck on that channel. Kudos HGTV, I know you will do the right thing with the house. That was always my biggest worry. I can smile again.”

Bass even got a sneak peak into the renovated home. He shared his tour on social media.

As for HGTV, they renovated the home and invited The Brady Bunch cast members along with key HGTV teams to celebrate the renovation. The group posed for an iconic family photo on the stairs of the home. In conclusion, all’s fair in love and The Brady Bunch home bidding war. We’re glad that everyone ended up happy in the end.
