Which star from The Brady Bunch is now a countertop creator? Mike Lookinland, who portrayed Bobby Brady on the show, spoke about his new unusual job.

Lookinland spoke to The Huffington Post and Oprah Winfrey about his new job. He came upon the career by accident, his wife brought home a library book about home improvement. He quit his job in production on a television show to pursue his newfound passion.

“The title of the book was ‘How to Make Concrete Countertops,’” Lookinland recalled. “I said, ‘Honey, I’m quitting my job. I’m going to make concrete countertops for a living.’” He now has his very own workshop at his home. “It’s artistic, and it’s rewarding, and it’s permanent,” he said.

What The Brady Bunch Taught Him About Entertainment

“From the age of 8, I learned that nothing in the entertainment industry is real,” The Brady Bunch alum revealed. “It’s all fake. Your face, your clothes, what you say — it’s all a fake. Lookinland explained that he wanted to do something real for himself.

Since the interview with Winfrey, he founded his company with Paul Lundy, Just Add Water. The company is located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

His Struggles Post-Fame

After The Brady Bunch became an iconic and historic television show, Lookinland struggled with fame. He explained that his life was in reverse.

“The problem for me was, I lived my childhood in my 20s,” he said. “You should really try to live your childhood when you’re a child, because if you do it when you’re 26, it can be dangerous.”

Soon after, he found himself drinking in excess.

“I loved alcohol. [The] first time I had a drink, oh boy, I thought it was the greatest thing in the world,” he shared.

“When it became clear that the choice wasn’t between sobering up or drinking, but the choice was actually between living or dying, then it became a simple choice for me,” he added.

Now, Lookinland is sober and married with two children. He met his wife while they attended college and have been sweethearts ever since.

Aside from a handful of interviews, he has remained out of the public eye over the years. He appeared on The Brady Bunch reunion special for HGTV in 2019. A Very Brady Renovation became a hit and he even got to show off his new countertop skills.
