The Roseanne spinoff show, The Conners, dove into a complicated issue on the show. But, they got to solve an age-old question that haunted fans of the two series. The TV show finally addressed how Becky’s husband passed away.

Since Roseanne’s first season, Mark’s death had been brought up several times. But, the show never revealed how he had died. The actor, Glenn Quinn, passed away from a drug overdose in 2002. However, The Conners never said how their character, Mark, had died.

But that all changed. In “Cheating, Revelations and a Box of Doll Heads,” the show finally discussed how Mark died. Becky said that Mark passed away as a result of a freak accident. During the exchange, Becky’s roommate insinuated that it was part of God’s plan.

But Becky said that God never helps her. She then said, “The last time [God] helped me, He threw a deer in front of my husband’s motorcycle, and he died.”

Delving Deeper Into “The Conners” Losing a Character Means Healing For Becky

Becky kept addressing the death in her therapy session with her family. The Conners character told her therapist that she started drinking after her husband died. The conversation that stemmed from her admitting to her alcoholism was a long time in the making.

The family, and Dan in particular, finally got to address Mark’s passing. Dan said that he thought Becky’s husband was a “selfish little punk” and that he only caused havoc in her life.

Even though this statement, for the most part, was true, it still stung Becky. She had dropped out of high school at 17 to be with him. Then, Mark had stolen the money that Dan and Roseanne sent for her tuition. Becky recognized the flaws in his character and addressed them as best as she could.

She explained how part of her screwed-up life was due to him. She said that she constantly lived in fear he would leave her. And then, because of the accident, he was gone forever. Becky began to cry after admitting that.

“I’ve wasted so much time. I kept telling myself, over and over again, that I was going to stop drinking and get back on track, and now I’m so far behind. I’ll never catch up,” Becky promised her family. “Remember how proud you were when I said I was going to be a doctor?”

As she concluded, Dan came and gave her a massive hug. Even though losing Mark to that horrific accident was hard for her, the healing with her family can now begin. The Conners now can move on from the conundrum of solving Mark’s passing. The family can now gel together and move on, just as the viewers can.
