The Last Cowboy‘s description reads, “The series chronicles reiners determined to elevate and preserve the cowboy tradition as they train and engage in the exclusive, ultra-competitive athletic event.”
The Last Cowboy is produced for CMT by Truly Original with Glenda Hersh, Steven Weinstock, Michelle Schiefen, Julie “Bob” Lombardi, Alexandra Lowry serving as executive producers. Sheridan, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, and Bob Yari serve as executive producers.
‘The Last Cowboy’ Creator Taylor Sheridan Is Notably Passionate about the Reining Community
According to Deadline, The Last Cowboy creator Taylor Sheridan is described as being “so passionate” about the reining community, as well as the sport. This is due to the fact that he is a reiner himself. Glenda Hersh, who runs the production company Truly Original, shared with the media outlet. “Taylor created the Run for a Million event. Which awards a $1 million purse. Something big in any sport or show for that matter. And it’s the largest in reining history.”
Hersh also stated that The Last Cowboy creator is very connected to the series. He is also involved in all aspects of production. “He’s also the commentator at Run for a Million and at qualifier events,” Hersh declared. She noted that 4,000 people come out to watch the Run For a Million live. She explained that she believes the event taps into something “visceral” for those fascinated with the West.
“This world appeals to both men and women. That’s reflective of the popularity of the cowboy entertainment and certainly of our audience for The Last Cowboy,” Hersh further stated.
‘The Last Cowboy’ Creator Taylor Sheridan Reveals More Details About His Approach to Screenwriting
In an August 2017 interview with ScreenCraft, The Last Cowboy creator Taylor Sheridan opened up about his approach to screenwriting. “I just sat down and thought, ‘I don’t know how to do this, but I’ve read 10,000 scripts my life and most of them were not very good. So if I just don’t do all the things that bothered me as an actor. It will probably turn out ok.”
Sheridan goes on to explain prior to physically writing his story, he actually has to see and understand the movie before he types anything. He then declared that he needs to be able to visualize the story, as well as the cheaters and what the script itself is trying to say. Then he can start writing.
