‘The Partridge Family’: David Cassidy Reportedly Hung Up on Elvis Presley Several Times for Hilarious Reason

by Joe Rutland

If Elvis Presley called you, would you hang up on “The King”? Maybe not. But “The Partridge Family” star David Cassidy did.

There reportedly were times when Cassidy, who played Keith Partridge on “The Partridge Family,” would receive phone calls from Presley himself. Yes, Elvis called David on the show’s set.

According to a 2005 story for PopEntertainment.com, Cassidy hangs up on Presley because he simply didn’t believe it was him.

Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, recalls visiting “The Partridge Family” set when she was three or four years old with her mom, Priscilla Presley.

Lisa Marie Presley Visited ‘The Partridge Family’ Set

“I was a huge fan of ‘The Partridge Family,'” Lisa Marie said. “I was also a huge fan of ‘The Jeffersons’ and ‘Good Times,’ ‘Sanford & Son,’ all those TV shows from back then. But I did love ‘The Partridge Family’ and I did go to the set.

“They were in the middle of taping,” she said. At one point, young Lisa Marie hopped out of her mother’s lap, ran onto the stage, and got into the lap of Shirley Jones. Jones played Shirley Partridge on the show.

“They had to stop the taping,” Lisa Marie said. “I didn’t think they knew who I was yet. They just knew this little girl had took running and (laughs) landed in Shirley Jones’ lap. I loved ‘I Think I Love You.’ In fact, this record has got me singing that on “Raven.” The intro on “Raven,” the three-year old voice is me singing “I Think I Love You.”

Priscilla Presley Would Tape Lisa Marie Singing For Elvis

“Raven” was co-written by Lisa Marie and her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood, for her album, “Now What.”

‘You hear my mom saying, ‘Sing it right’ and I just thought that was funny,” she said. “And the ‘ba-ba-ba-ba’ in the beginning is the intro for ‘I Think I Love You.'”

Lisa Marie said her mother would tape her singing and send it to Elvis when he was touring.

“So she’d have me singing songs into a tape recorder and she had that,” she said.

It’s fair to say that Lisa Marie Presley lived out her dreams by visiting “The Partridge Family” set.
